What we ordered: the famous grilled fish, the papaya salad, the pork BBQ (not spicy) 2 steamed rice 1 Coke 1 Chang Beer in can Cost: We paid 350 baht
Our experience: When we arrived at the place they were actually about to close. But luckily the owner welcomed us and allowed us to dine in because we mentioned that we had walked our way less than 2kms from where we were staying (why we walked that evening is because it was the only night that was surprisingly cooler ever since we arrived in CNX in May 3). We have learned that the fish here was amazing and the main reason we went there was to have a taste of this wonderful fish and it definitely did not disappoint, at all. The fish was grilled to perfection. Once you open the skin or rather, the skin was already opened once they place it on your table so you will see and smell the freshness of the fish with a hint of some lemongrass. It was amazingly fresh, juicy, and almost melts in your mouth in every bite. A portion of the lemongrass was placed on the inside and nothing more but I was amazed that it was still juicy until the end. Be careful not to eat the skin as it is grilled while the fish is slathered with salt. The papaya salad was refreshing (but peanut/shrimp alert to those with allergies). The softness and freshness of the papaya contrast to that of the crunchy roasted peanuts and that sauce... hmmm.. It complements well with the fish and the underrated pork BBQ was tender and flavorful. Definitely not dry and not burnt which was a plus. We would definitely go back to have our fish craving and we will definitely try the other dishes too. It was a very refreshing and wonderful experience overall not just for the food but also the kindness they had shown and the wondeful interaction we had with the owner and the lady staff at that time. I even had a brief chitchat with the owner as we were leaving and he mentioned about son. This is the kind of experience one wants to cherish especially visiting a place for the first time, well, for me that is. So again, we will definitely go back to try the other dishes too. And this time, we promised then we will get there earlier next time around.
Btw, the owner does all the cooking and he was also cleaning up as we were leaving. A very dedicated man, rare to find these days.
Restaurant Hours: Google says 3pm - 8pm while their FB says 4pm-9pm Tip: Try to be there atleast 6:30-6:45 pm, I guess, during weekdays, to be accommodated. Better yet try calling or sending a message on their FB account too to confirm hours.

Read moreDont come with high expectations as you will be disappointed. It was not busy at all when We came, in fact we were the only one there though it is over 5pm. The place is located on a quite street and is quiet big. However it was not well lit which is understandable and the atmosphere was cold. The only reason this is getting a four-star is because of the owner/chef. He has so much passion and is such a friendly person. However that is pretty much it. The two servers were far from friendly and didn’t care much about their job. We were the only table and yet there was no real service or hospitality which is rare in this region. Every time they served it was as if they were throwing it on the table.
Food-wise, we had a Tom Yum chicken soup, papaya salad and the infamous grilled fish. Soup was bland and nothing like those we had so far in Thailand. Salad was fresh and okay but nothing special. Grilled fish was moist but lacked flavour. Perhaps I was expecting so much as there were so many good reviews. If you have never had grilled fish before then you will like it, but if you are familiar with South East Asian cuisine then this is nothing special. It is decent...
Read moreThe place is very local, almost roadside environment (basically nothing), and the location is in a really secluded small road. But don't let appearances deceive you. It is an absolutely great place to eat in Chiang Mai. We came here twice on our 4 day trip. That says something in a city with all the choices available.
The baked tilapia (only 1 fish type and size) is juicy and perfectly done. Goes great with the sauces provided. If nothing else be sure to eat this.
The morning glory may be a bit salty to some but it is to die for.
The tom yum goong may seem expensive compared to some other restaurants but the 8 medium prawns are super fresh and the taste of the soup is better than a lot of other restaurants in Chiang Mai or even Bangkok.
The fried pork is very well done, fried to slightly crispy while maintaining their juices. Very very few restaurants can boast this cooking balance.
On top of the great taste is the cheap prices and super fast service. I don't know how they can do it but they are Cheap, Fast and Good all in one.
Of course if these dishes don't appeal to you then go somewhere else because that's almost the...
