We look for seafood whenever we are traveling. After the Big Buddha, it was time for food. So whipped out my phone and started Googling.
Thank you for the Google community keeping reviews real and trust worthy. It has been a life saver in a lot of situations including getting out of scams while traveling in Thailand.
Note: DO NOT trust anyone in security uniform telling you ANYTHING.
Back to this restaurant. Extremely fair pricing, good food, good selection, and clean. While there's lots of flies, it was because we were seated in the zone where the fans didn't reach. Turns out they could've brought us a table fan to keep the flies away. Ask for it if you're getting lots of food.
We ordered like money wasn't a problem and to our hearts content. Ended up spending $80 CAD equivalent of what would have been an equivalent $500 CAD meal in Toronto.
We ordered two fresh coconuts (try) raw shrimp (try) one dozen oysters (skip) 2 crabs cook in curry sauce (must order) fried fish in Thai sauce (must order) scallops in garlic oil (try) morning Glory (must order) Tom yum soup (try) passion fruit smoothie to go (must order) mango smoothie to go (skip)
For two people. We were beyond stuffed, but extremely happy belly.

Read moreThis is my first bad review for the restuarant in my life. We waited for 50 mins for the food. They didn't seem busy at all and all the dishes shouldn't take that long untill the first dish arrived. They didn't even tell us that it will take that long. The taste are not that good as reviews said. We ordered -Seafood tomyum which was too much cream in there Sarong prawns which is too oily Drunk seafood stir fried which is not tasty Red saurce chicken wings was really bad. The sauce just on top of chickens not go through the meat Spicy seafood salad was good but way too spicy(We are Thai and able to eat spicy) To whom like spiciness you might like it. Oysters omelet was good Fresh Oysters was good and reasonable price Choo chee fish was the only dish that was delicious Fruit smoothies were too terrible to drink. Full of sugar even we ordered less sugar!!. Orange smoothies taste like orange syrup but they said they made them from fresh orange The prices of the food are pretty good price but with all those reasons we were not happy. Definitely not...
Read moreFive stars compared to all other seafood options in Kata Beach, but it would suffer if competition was better. It caters to Russians and other Westerners with overly large menus selection, but iI recommend only choosing from the displayed live seafood.
We evaluated their live fish tanks and came back to eat twice at Kwongs. Their fish on display was the liveliest and clean tanks in Kata neighborhood.
We selected a live lobster and had it prepared with garlic and pepper. It was fresh and tender, but a little overwhelmed with sauce.
Red Coconut Curry was flavorful, but one should order it spicier than White Guy level (most customers were russian).
On second night, we wanted to try Mantis Shrimp, but unfortunately, they were sold out of larger ones we'd seen in tank earlier. We picked some medium mantis shrimp from the tank, cooked in garlic, which was only so so and no better than regular shrimp. We had much better and larger mantis shrimp at Rawai Fish Market that were deliciously unique, but still Kwong's was the best...
