Boon Tong Kee - Emquartier — Restaurant in Khlong Tan Nuea Subdistrict

Boon Tong Kee is one of my favorite chicken rice restaurants. Whenever I feel like having chicken rice, it’s always my first choice, whether I’m in Thailand or visiting Singapore.

The taste is absolutely delicious to me, and honestly, it’s hard to find anywhere that can beat it. Today I went to the EmQuartier branch around 7:30 PM, but sadly the signature boiled chicken was already sold out. So for the first time, I ordered the roasted duck and the Chinese braised duck.

At first, I thought it would just be okay, but I was surprised. The roast duck was really good. The skin was crispy and went well with the sauce (though the sauce is a bit watery). It came with a few dipping sauces, and I really recommend the chili one ( it tastes like a Chinese-style chili oil paste) It went great with the roast duck and even with the chicken rice (ข้าวมัน).

The braised duck was a bit bland for me, so I’d rate it 3 out of 5. 🥲 But the roast duck was so good that overall, the taste still deserves 5/5.

Service gets a 4. The staff at this branch didn’t seem that enthusiastic compared to other locations.

Atmosphere I’d give a 3. Not sure why, but it didn’t feel as nice as other branches I’ve been to, like the one at Sukhumvit 49 or the old branch that used to be at Siam Paragon.

Still love Boon Tong Kee though. Just maybe prefer other branches more....

Food is ok but service is out of control. We first asked if possible to change the typical chicken oil rice to white rice and the waitress said can. When served, another waitress argued and said cannot change. We have to tell her again and again and only another man from reception came and said change. Then came the vegetable issue, we ordered a vege dish with century egg and the waitress took the order. Later after serving a chicken dish and the rice, she said no more such vege. So we changed to Kangkong she said ok and later after a few minutes, she came again and said no more. We chose Kai lan and she said no more and only offered us a dish that we did not fancy. After ding dong with their broken English, the guy from reception came and said they will serve us Kangkong that the other waitress said did not have. What a SOP that they are having...and they started to turn away...

I am in Bangkok for 10 days and staying at a hotel nearby. i ordered steamed chicken my first time there. It was ok. They ran out of rice. What kind of Chinese restaurant runs out of rice and it wasn’t even close to closing time! I probably would not have come back, but I saw ducks were on the menu. I was craving duck meat a couple of days later, so I went back. Ducks must run in size S in Thailand, as my order of 1/2 duck looked tiny. It also did not have a lot of flavor. Normally when I eat duck I don’t like using any type of sauce. But I had to use their dipping sauce because it was so bland. All in all, a very average...
