D'ARK EmQuartier - Comfort Food & Specialty Coffee — Restaurant in Khlong Tan Nuea Subdistrict

From atmosphere to location, service to food, D'ARK is a definite triumph.

Atomisphere is modern but warm - plenty of caramel, black, dark chocolate, brown wooden furnitures and decoration all around, warmed up by the yellow glow ceiling lamps.

Located right at the ground level of EmQuartier, the location of D'ARK is truly convenient.

Service is warm and efficient. Som, my waitress who was also attending the front podium, give me attentive and quick service with a smile.

Now to food - while atmosphere, location, and service are great, the food is definitely the best aspect of D'ARK. They offer up a menu full of deliciousness, presented in urban yet earthy style.

My "Energy Booster Smoothie" was was bursting with goodness of blueberries, mangoes, and banana, topped with warm coconut flakes and toasty granola.

I liked my Dirty Coffee so much that I ordered a second. The intense slightly nutty taste of cafe ristretto was perfectly balanced by the goodness of cool creamy fresh milk.

Lastly, I was very excited to see a bun-less burger on the menu, so I ordered it. It arrived with two juicy dry aged Angus patties at Center stage topped with strips of grilled bacon and a nutty layer of Gouda cheese. They were accompanied by a supporting cast of crispy fresh chilled rocket salad, cherry tomatoes, burnt avo, a dab of large grain mustard, and shaved parmesan. It is definitely one of the best restaurant burgers I have tasted in recent times. Simply an all around triumph.

Had an early breakfast on a weekend.

The cafe was toasty because the central aircon only starts at 10am. Meanwhile, we were feeding the mosquitoes and fighting the flies.

They have all the usual cafe food you would expect in Bangkok (or anywhere in the world).

Shashuka Looks like it, smells like it but something is just not right about this if you had one in Europe. First of all, there wasn’t enough bread to soak up the stew, and it was not freshly toasted (no grill marks). The free-range eggs were almost cooked and clumpy rather than runny. The feta cheese ‘melted’ into the stew! You have to look harder to find them.

Market Breakfast We didn’t finish this. That’s not scrambled eggs. It was fried dry and needed two dashes of salt 🧂 bring out at flavour. Portobello mushroom was rubbery and watery - again void of any flavours. Bread is also stale.

Açaí bowl This was the only piece of food that felt right. Fresh berries and well balanced fruits to perk up the morning with the with bite from the equally good granola!

Coffee Now we didn’t finish the coffee. They look really good on photo. Great latte art but they taste a bit off.

The flat white had traces of hazel nut. The milk was overpowering and it removed any traces of coffee aroma.

The dirty moonlight tasted buttery with a layer of oil and a hint of salt. Again the taste of coffee was absent.

We like the service crew on duty. They were friendly and nice.

For a party of 3, we spent 2000B. I think it was a bit expensive for...

We planned to spend the first day of 2025 at Dark, a restaurant we enjoy and go to quite often, and called them on 31 Dec 2024 to reserve specifically table 010 at 1.30pm - we have a record of this call and there is no mistake that we made the reservation for table 010 at 1.30pm on 1st Jan 2025. On the morning of the 1st we travelled down to Emquartier and presented ourselves at Dark at 1.25pm. We could see the restaurant was quite full and our table 010 occupied by a party of four. We mentioned our booking to the hostess only to be told that they had no record of it and that we must have been mistaken. They questioned us, are we sure we made the reservation, on this day, at this restaurant etc. Of course we did, we have a record of it! Nevertheless they insisted we hadn't made any reservation and we were dismissed. They had clearly overbooked the restaurant and didn't want to honor our reservation. They were lying to us, and blaming us for their mistake. For a restaurant of this calibre, their behavior is unprofessional and very disappointing. There are so many better ways they could have handled the situation but decided to blame their customer instead.
