TL;DR They gave me a 10% discount on a cold dish that was then microwaved, served as something undefinable, then heated up "again" and served cold - again. Khun Aom from the Service did a great job. Polite, professional and she knew what she was doing despite the lack of a team that actually had her back.
The rest of the service appeared to be rather lost. But - it was the first day of opening. Most of them clearly had no service experience and therefore, nothing to lose one's mind over.
I ordered carbonara. The pasta came cold. These things happen. Called over the waiter to re-heat. The pasta now came microwaved looking like the movie monster from "The Blob". Paying premium prices, this cannot happen.
Anyway, with some mindful emotional restraint I could overlook that too.
The pasta came for the third time. This time, cold again. Not sure if it was a new dish or a re-re-heated version of the original pasta. The texture and taste was comparable to flavoured rubber bands. Anyway, at that point my appetite had taken a well deserved vacation.
Conclusion & Cherry on top
This was an unfortunate series of events that I was willing to overlook and try again in a month or two to see how things would improve. As a hospitality professional myself, I do know that opening days are susceptible to dumb mistakes and unforeseeable last minute changes that can and will throw off work flows.
That's why there is something that is called "the management".
However, they have completely failed. Despite them being there yet virtually didn't lift a finger to aid their staff (Didn't greet costumers, didn't serve or take orders etc.), they haven't had the courtesy to come to my table and handle my incident themselves. Instead, they offered a 10% discount through their waitress. Which, even though well-meant, felt like a lazy way to "take responsibility".
It was nothing short of insulting, spiteful and a clear sign of zero costumer...
Read morei have many good things to say about Kay's. it's clearly an IG favorite which speaks heavily of how good the design and architecture. the indoor massive bonsai style tree in an open air enclosure with glass on 4 sides yet open to the sky was unique. An American friend (i come from further north, a place called the Great White North or a.k.a. Canada) and i decided to take advantage of the extensive pancake menu (he peters a banana and walnut pancake to find out that meant walnuts and sliced bananas serve on top of pancake). now for me having been scared by this before i asked 'Do you have maple syrup?'. 'oh yes sir kaa' was the polite response. so i ordered some blueberry pancake (no blueberry in the pancake) - berries and sauce added on top. now the syrup was delivered. Tried it. it's not real maple syrup. Wear says it is maple syrup. i ask him to bring me the container or a picture or what this syrup came in. he quickly returned to the table with a photo of a label from a local (big and known) thai company called 'Maple Flavoured Syrup'. i would suggest to the owners they should invest in real syrup or tell customers accurately what is on offer. Staff was great and a wonderful place...
Read morePros: food was quite good. My eggs Benedict prosciutto was very good - fluffy bread, very nice hollandaise, and a perfectly poached egg. The seasoned fries were good too.
One of my friends had the breakfast tacos and said they were pretty good.
Another friend had the beef bowl and she seemed to like it, although she thought the beef was just a little bit chewy. But overall good.
The scallops toast was very tasty, although the actual bread was quite thick compared to the scallop topping. But good flavor.
Service was pretty good too. Our food came quickly and it was easy to get the servers attention.
Cons: it seems to be a popular place, so after waiting 20 minutes for a table inside, we decided to just sit outside. We went on a Sunday afternoon. They did provide fans and umbrellas, which helped. And the little pond and plants out back were lovely.
Getting our bill took longer than expected. But they were busy, so it's all good.
Prices are a bit more than I'd like to casually spend, but it's absolutely fine for a nice brunch out.
Overall, a good experience! I'm interested in going back to try...
