Sura Korean BBQ Bangkok — Sura’s owner and chef learnt cooking from a Buddhist nun, Soenjae, the master of temple food, and value the harmony of nature’s diverse ingredients.
We did not try Sura’s traditional chicken soup which has been awarded the Blue Ribbon Survey, Korea’s Michelin for 4 years in a row 2014-2017.
Food wise, nothing to scream about but if you are looking for a quick affordable meal in the Sukhumvit area, this would be the place. It’s Korean no doubt but not the best quality Korean.
Unexpectedly the notable dish was the cold buckwheat noodles (199B). We ordered the Friends Set (999B++) ideal for 3 persons -- Pork Belly (200g) Pork Blade Shoulder (200g), Kimchi Stew, Steam Egg Hotpot with Cheese. The vegetables were fresh and succulent.
The popular boneless beef short ribs (730B 150g) was sold out when we came at about 2pm. We had the Premium Kkotgalbisal, highly marbled boneless beef short rib (870B 150g), but quality wise, it was on the low-end. The restaurant is cosy yet not cramped, having nice defined space for...
Read moreChance upon this place purely by accident as we were walking out towards Sukhumvit after taking our pre flight ART. Prices looked very affordable so decided to give it a try. It's a little joint that filled up quickly so make a reservation for weekends if you're coming. There was a queue when we left at about 7pm. From autographs on the walls, it seems that several local and Korean celebrities have graced this restaurant.
The meats and soup were good but not great but the presentation was very instagramable. Service was surprisingly good and the side dishes were never allowed to be empty at any point. Beer was served in ice cold mugs with 2 pieces of rock ice to keep it cold all the time. Lastly, something of a novelty to me but i thought it was brilliant - you'll be provided also with a shower cap if you have longer hair so that you don't smell like BBQ...
Read moreThere was a lot of promotion on the internet with photos of Korean and Thai celebrities, so I decided to visit for lunch. The atmosphere was neat, and the staff, who had been well-trained, had a refined appearance. The walls were adorned with numerous photos of Korean and Thai celebrities. The food that was served included cold rice. It was the first time in my life that I was served cold rice at a restaurant. The side dishes and food were presented nicely. However, it seems there either wasn't a Korean chef, or the Thai chef was not adequately trained. The taste was different from that of Korean cuisine. The steamed egg dish had no seasoning at all. While it looked like steamed egg, it didn’t taste like the steamed egg dish it was supposed to be. It would be good if half the effort put into promotion was instead directed towards operation, quality, and...
