Finding a Thai restaurant in Bangkok to host isn’t straightforward.
High-end places featured in Netflix and social media are often pricey, and eateries in malls are often soulless (the food is usually fine). Street-side and mom-and-pop shops terrify some, and chain eateries are for quick, convenient bites.
Thank goodness for Baan Glom Gigg (BGG). It hits all the important sweet spots:
Delicious, diverse menu of home-cooked food that many Thai families enjoy Spacious, lovely indoor and outdoor dining areas Big enough to host parties of all sizes, and the restaurant doesn’t get too noisy Accessible central city location in the Ploenchit area
Some favorite dishes from the last time we visited included the garlic river prawns, curried squid, black squid ink tom yam soup, yam talay (a fab seafood salad), well-seasoned and balanced fish cakes (not normally my favorite), and more. Dishes have the right ratio of herbs, aromatics, and spices, and pack a spice punch in some cases (but not overwhelming). BGG also boasts a decent drinks list.
Besides the food and atmosphere, the warmth, charm, and charisma of owner Khun Koong are other big selling points for BGG. She is the host with the most, has a deep knowledge of Thai cuisine and ingredients, and will make you feel at home. It’s a home your taste buds will fall in love with and may...

I've been there many times. I like to entertain clients or bring my friends visiting from overseas for good authentic Thai food in a cozy environment.
Unfortunately, last time I was there on Apr 4, 2015, staff were very unfriendly, almost rude. Their attitude gave me the impression, they looked down on us, they know better. In fact when I had arrived and asked for high chair for my toddler, the waiter looked at me and said we don't have as if I had asked something ridiculous!
I was returning from the washroom, as my husband paid up and were leaving, i saw the waiter's face with raised eyebrow as if he deserved more than the already included service charge. I normally do tip even if service is included but these guys did not deserve any, including the service charge.
Overall, all staff just don't look happy in there.
I didn't want to make a big deal about it in front my friends but embarrassing is the...
Read moreBaan Glom Gig is a cozy restaurant with a relaxing atmosphere, just like dining at a friend's house. The Thai food here offers authentic flavors, with many dishes that stand out. Whether you're looking for a single-dish meal perfect for office workers in the area, or customizable dishes, most items are delicious. Some of my favourites that I always order include fried catfish with chili and ginger, grilled beef salad, and omelet with Khun Sucha's special recipe. A unique dish that I've never had anywhere else is the fish soup named Jiam Chue, which has a wonderfully well-balanced taste. The restaurant also offers squid soup with a rich, dark broth, and their spicy duck curry and green curry with beef are both exceptionally tasty as well. Highly recommended. ...
