Visited this outlet pretty early (around 10.30am) and was slightly disappointed at my experience - because I love Somtamnua 😕
Good points: The fried chicken is amazing (the best) as usual, and the corn salad was really good too. They use fresh corn! We could hear them chopping at the counter!
Bad points: A few of the items we wanted to try were unavailable yet, perhaps due to the early timing which is understandable. Was mainly disappointed at the fried rice. Half an hour into waiting, we were told that the fried rice with signature grilled pork was not ready yet and we could only order plain fried rice. We would have to wait another half an hour for the grilled pork. The dried pork version was also unavailable. Wouldn’t have been so upset if we had been made aware right from the start upon ordering instead of after 1/2 hour at the restaurant.

Read moreA place I will never visit again!!!
Starting with the taste: I ordered a sour and spicy pork soup, and there was an overwhelming meaty odor!!! After one sip, I couldn't eat anymore. I have never had such unappetizing pork in Bangkok.🤮
I also ordered a cup of chrysanthemum tea, and more than half of the cup was filled with ice, quite deceptive. When I ordered, I specifically told the waiter 'less sugar,' yet they added a lot of sugar. Can't they understand even this basic English? Speechless 😓
In terms of pricing: it's on the expensive side, lacking in value for money. A small bowl of sour and spicy pork soup (finished in a few bites) costs over 50 RMB, equivalent to 210 Thai Baht. You can easily find better options in the shopping mall; there's no need to come here – expensive and tasteless.
Regarding service: because the sour and spicy ribs were so unappetizing, and I only took one bite, I explained the situation to one of the female waitstaff and requested to remove it from my bill. She took the dish away. However, when settling the bill, a male staff member acted as if he didn't understand and insisted on keeping the dish on the bill. I was instantly displeased. Are customers being treated like fools? Is this your service attitude? Having stayed in Bangkok for so long, I have never had such unpalatable Thai food. This restaurant truly opened my eyes.
Furthermore, when ordering, they seemed to ignore me, pretending not to notice I was a foreign tourist, prioritizing serving local customers who arrived later. It's a subtle form of discrimination. I truly don't understand how this restaurant has survived until now. Is it because Thai people are too tolerant, or is there a clear distinction in treatment?
Business transactions may fail, but integrity remains. Running a business should involve conscience. A trashy place!🤮🤮🤮
Read moreThe taste of the food is consistent. There are varieties of som tum (papaya salad) to choose from. I have always loved the fried chicken wings here. When talking about the dessert, the grass jelly with milk is tasty. For us, this place provides comfort food.
One point for improvement is the size of their grilled pork jowl; it was just adequate. The slices were paper-thin. The overall piece was small. There are Northeastern restaurants with better grilled pork jowl.
The service is very good. Although there are fewer staffs, they tried their best to serve every table.
