Barfunk Phuket — Restaurant in Patong

Well I have to say this venue is absolutely amazing. We’ve been to Thailand four years in a row and always come here because we’ve had great service and an extremely good night. In our current visit, we are Disappointed. They have some absolutely amazing acrobatic acts and DJ’s, but the bar is absolutely dead when every other bar is absolutely pumping. We normally get here around 9 pm because we know we could never get a seat but this year at 9 pm we were the only customers in the bar on a Thursday night. We always come in low season, but the bar is always pumping at this time. In previous years this has been amazing, for this year it has been sub par. We were shocked when we saw the alcohol prices. We saw some other fellow Aussies come in and question the Alcohol prices and walk straight out. Charging $5AU Australian for a small bottle of soda water is not on. Not to mention the bottle prices for spirits are more than double than $Aus prices when you get them significantly cheaper other bars. It’s so disappointing because this venue is absolutely amazing and we’ve had a great time here however it is going downhill on our current occasion. Whoever the owner is, please restore it to it previous value of being an amazing place to party at and also have reasonable alcohol prices. Terrible establishment. Myself and 8 friends walked in over the weekend. The waitress forced my friends to sit down immediately (no one really wanted to sit down....who sits down in a nightclub with decent house music playing?) upon entering in order to pressure them into buying a drink. My friends were having a look at the menu and intended to buy drinks due to being pressured. I had walked onto the dancefloor (to dance, obviously) while my friends sat down, and a waitress and a waiter angrily and rudely followed me to the dancefloor and flagged me to come sit so I could buy a drink. This all happened within literally 30 seconds of entering the establishment. When I refused, they shouted at me to get out. So you guys essentially lost the business of 9 people who probably would have bought many drinks all night, simply because you guys are pushy, greedy and have no common sense of how a club works. You don't force people to buy a drink immediately upon entering a club. Let people breathe and purchase on their own accord instead of spoiling the vibe. Do not bother going into this place. Had a horrible experience - Indecent staff does not hesitate getting abusive (both physical and verbal) with customers.

More details on the incident: A staff member on the road convinces me and my wife to get into the pub. I confirmed if they accept credit card as payment on entry and they agreed. I ordered 2 beers which came up to 240 THB and I offered my credit card to pay the amount right when it was served. Staff says that they will not take CC unless the total bill value is at least of 500 THB and taking my credit card in the process. The lady behind the counter calls up 2 more male staff who start getting verbally abusive at this stage. They force me to go to a nearby ATM while one of the male staff is overseeing my ATM transaction and my wife is surrounded by multiple staff members in the pub. I promptly provide 1000 THB in the bill holder and the lady throws the bill holder back to me with 760 THB. I take the change back and throw the holder back on her counter and this is when the male staff gets physically abusive and breaks one of the beer bottle.
