Part 1: One word-delicious! (May 16, 18)
Please read as this is gonna to be long but GOOD! Part 2: two days after part 1 (May 18, 2018)
Last day of a 4-day stay in the Patong area before I move on to another area in Phuket.
I visited the Margie massage shop thats a few stores west of the restaurant. (I visited it 5 times and I highly recommend it too). When its time to pay for the massage I realized my wallet was missing. I knew I had it on me because I purchased a coffee on my way to the shop just half a block east of the restaurant. Not knowing what had happened I tracked my way from the massage shop back to the coffee stand and talked with the lady that runs the coffee stand but she said she didnt find anything. I went back to the massage shop and luckily I had some cash in a different pocket to pay for the work but at that point I had pretty much given all hope on ever finding my wallet. I decided to call my banks in Canada right there at the store to cancel all the credit cards in my wallet. At this point a total of more than 3 hours since I was without my wallet. After I made all the phone calls, I left the massage shop and walked down the street towards the beach. About 100 meters into my walk a guy on a motorbike pulled up beside me and asked if I had lost a wallet. I thought to myself... wow is this some kind of a scam that I am being setup for or not?? Nevertheless out of curiosity I told him I did and he told me he picked it up on the street and dropped it off to the police station. He happened to recognize me because he looked at the IDs in my wallet. He told me he already spent some time going around the hotels nearby to see if anyone would recognize me from my IDs. He told me to hop on his bike and he took me to the police station and retrieved my wallet. Nothing in my wallet was missing. Afterwards he was kind enough to take me back to the hotel. On the way I asked him where he found my wallet and he said: “ I found it in front of my restaurant” So I asked him where is your restaurant. He said “No. 9 2nd is my restaurant.” It turned out that somehow my wallet fell out of my pocket in front of the restaurant on my way from the coffee stand to the massage shop. I mustn’t have secured the wallet in my pocket after I used it to pay for the coffee and it just fell off when I walked past the restaurant. Anyway I was beyond words on how grateful I was to the owner of No 9 2nd for helping me to recover my wallet. Subsequently I revisited the restaurant once more before I left Patong. As with the first 2 visits the food was great!
In my opinion if such a kind hearted and caring person owns this restaurant you can pretty much count on it wont you?
I—-
I return to Patong almost one year later (April 3, 2019) and visited the restaurant again. Everyone in the restaurant including the owner recognized me immediately when I walked in! I ordered the curry duck, pineapple fired rice and tom yum soup that are all excellent!!
Incidentally, they have opened another restaurant called 9Zaab Restaurant by No. 9 2nd that is about 5 minutes away. You should visit there especially if you have small kids. (Pls read my review there to see why) They have a free shuttle from here to there if you...
Read moreCame to this place after doing a quick search and with it having 2 locations. I decided to give it a try. The place has a lot of photos on the wall, food wasn’t too bad but I didn’t get a good vibe for the atmosphere.
Maybe my expectations were too high after seeing all the great reviews and rating. I wish I could give it a higher rating but the atmosphere killed it for me. Probably wouldn’t be coming back for a second visit as there was nothing out of the ordinary so there wasn’t a really wow or must come back again type of experience for me here.
There is one thing I have to mention which is the large menu they have. There were so many variety of selections for everyone to choose from so if you like a lot of choices, this might be a spot for you. For me however, I can get indecisive sometimes and it felt like I was reading a book to order some classic dishes to try.
Update*After trying multiple restaurants in the area. Decided to change my overall rating for this place to 4 stars instead of 3 as I personally think it did not justify for the service and overall quality of food. And I might come back again to try other dishes...
Read moreThis restaurant was our favorite discovery in Patong! Out of the 10 days we spent in the area, we dined here 8 times because we quickly realized it’s one of the best and most authentic Thai spots. Everything was perfect – from the delicious dishes to the incredibly friendly, attentive staff.
The menu is diverse, with options from various cuisines, but we stuck to trying traditional Thai food. We enjoyed soups like Tom-Yam and Kaeng-Som, Red, Green, and Panang curries, Stir-fried shrimps with garlic, Pineapple fried rice with shrimps, Pad Thai with shrimps, Chicken Satay, Fried chicken in pandanus leaves, Stir fried shrimps with XO sauce, kim-chee fried rice, the spicy seafood salad (which we couldn’t get enough of!), and of course, the famous mango sticky rice. Each meal was a celebration of flavors, and we got braver each day, trying spicier and spicier dishes!
I highly recommend this place – it offers an authentic culinary experience with a warm atmosphere and is budget friendly. If you’re in Patong, this...
