Bacillus cereus is a sneaky bacterium that lives in uncooked rice as heat-resistant spores.
Cooking kills bacteria, but the spores survive. If the rice sits at room temperature for too long, the spores wake up, multiply, and release toxins.
Two types of food poisoning can happen:
The Vomit Apocalypse (Emetic Toxin):
Hits fast (within 1–6 hours).
Causes severe nausea and uncontrollable vomiting (but usually no diarrhea).
The toxin is heat-resistant, so even if you reheat the rice, you’re still doomed.
The Endless Bathroom Trip (Diarrheal Toxin):
Slower onset (6–15 hours later).
Causes diarrhea and painful cramps, but not as much vomiting.
Happens when bacteria grow in your intestines and release toxins inside you.
How to Avoid This Nightmare:
✔️ Refrigerate cooked rice within an hour (below 5°C / 40°F). ✔️ Don’t let rice sit at room temp for more than 1–2 hours. ✔️ Reheat only once and make sure it's steaming hot. ❌ If rice has been sitting out too long, throw it out. Reheating won’t fix it!
Moral of the story: Rice looks harmless, but if stored wrong, it’s a biological weapon.
Maybe put this on a big poster on your kitchen so chef learns something before he actually...
Read moreWe had dinner at Little Phuket and absolutely loved the experience! We ordered five dishes:
• Tom Kha Chicken — Creamy, flavorful, and comforting, just as I expected. I love Thai food, so this was a winner.
• Papaya Salad with Shrimp — Fresh, vibrant, and authentically Thai. I’ve had this dish in Singapore, but the flavors here in Thailand are on another level!
• Fried Prawns in Olive Oil — My favorite dish of the night! Five big, juicy prawns perfectly tossed with garlic in olive oil — absolutely mouthwatering.
• Pineapple Fried Rice with Shrimp — A flavorful delight packed with plenty of shrimp, fragrant spices, cashews, and raisins. The balance of flavors and textures was just perfect.
• Fresh Coconut — A refreshing addition to the meal.
The total bill came to 900 THB plus 3% GST, so we paid 927 THB in total.
Overall, it was an amazing meal, and I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area. It’s a must-visit spot for authentic Thai flavors and generous portions. Thank you,...

We ordered the pineapple fried rice (230 THB / USD 6.30), tom yum seafood soup (250 THB / USD 6.80), seafood pad thai (125 THB / USD 3.40), and cashew nut chicken (170 THB / USD 4.60)—all well-cooked and flavorful, with fair portions. Prices are pretty reasonable given the touristy location.
Food was served quickly, and service was friendly, though not overly attentive. One thing to note is that the space is open-air, including the indoor seating in the new building, so there were some flies around—something to keep in mind if you’re sensitive to that.
They’re clearly doing well, with two restaurant units side by side. If the main outlet by the street is full, staff will walk you next door to the second unit, which has more available seating.
It’s not a fine-dining experience, but if you’re in the mood for casual, affordable Thai food with fast service in the heart of Old Town, this is a good...
