Oblò•Pasta•Pizza•Gelato — Restaurant in Ratsada

My husband, daughter and I are from the US and have been traveling around Thailand and Cambodia for almost 3 weeks. I love Thai and Cambodian food, but I'd been craving some dairy, especially pizza for days. Unfortunately the pizza at most of the restaurants in Cambodia and Thailand have looked subpar at best.

How lucky for us that we happen to be staying at the Blu Monkey Hub and Hotel in Phuket! It was pouring rain last night and we didn't want to venture far from our place so we decided to try the little Italian restaurant next door. We had passed by it a few days ago and the pics on the menu looked good!

Now I love pizza! In the US we have pizza about once a week and I love them all...doesn't matter if it is deep dish, NY style, Detroit style etc. However my preference is a good Neapolitan pizza. I've eaten award winning Neapolitan Pizza in the US at a few locations and enjoyed some at Naples during a week long trip to Italy.

I can honestly say the pizza we had last night at Oblo was probably one of the best pizzas I've ever had anywhere in the world! Seriously it was perfection! From the delicious crust, flavorful sauce and melty cheese it was divine! Plus we added some truffles which just added to the experience (and we are finding truffles are less expensive in Asia compared to the US).

In addition, the service was friendly and prompt. We enjoyed coloring as we waited for our food to be prepared. And the rain and jazz music created a lovely ambiance! We are already planning on returning soon. I am a sucker for homemade pasta and I might need to try the tiramisu that comes in cute tins!

If you are looking for well made, authentic Italian food this place delvers! Thanks for a delicious...

Absolute disappointment. Except for the nice alfresco area, this has to be the most disappointing dining experience on the island.

Clearly ordered the red sauce calzone. As keyed into their system (see receipt). Delivered a white creamy sauced one which is something we don't eat (cream sauced pizzas/calzone). When we asked to change, they said it was made already and only offered to give us a bowl of tomato sauce to dip? Seriously??

Then they brought an aglio oglio when order was clearly a vongole. They didn't look happy taking it back. After awhile, came back with similar looking pasta plus some clams on it. The pasta was so soggy and mushy it didn't even feel like pasta anymore. Think of a Wet koay teow (soft flat asian rice noodles). We asked if this was the old one coz the texture was so so bad. Waitress didn't even check with kitchen, instead just said it's a new one. When we insisted she check, the answer returned was that it's not good coz chef is training a new cook and this pasta was cooked by the new trainee. Wow... So now as full paying customers, we are being told we are Guinea pigs, with staff acknowledging its not normal because our pasta was cooked by a cook under training?

When bill came, there was an extra drink in there which we didn't order. Had to tell them to take it off. No sorry. No nothing!

Mind you there were only 4 table at that time, so a busy, overwhelmed restaurant as a reason is not even valid.

Better off sticking with the likes of brasserie, la gaetana or...

A truly bizarre experience! This place has the potential to be one of the best pizza restaurants I've tried in Thailand because they source their ingredients from Italy, the dough is perfect, the cheese is proper Italian cheese, the tomato sauce is excellent. However, they make a glaring error in the preparation! Every pizza you order seems to be cooked like a margherita, and then they put the toppings on AFTERWARDS! It is so strange! Basically you get the best margherita but with uncooked toppings on it! I tried it twice because I was sure it must have been a mistake but it was the same both times. First I had a Neapolitan which had uncooked anchovies and olives on it. It was still nice and I went back a few days later and had a pepperoni with mushroom, which again had uncooked pepperoni on it and they seemed to have fried the mushrooms separately and put them on afterwards! Such a shame, but easily corrected, I hope the owner reads this and sorts this out because if you just make the pizza with the topping on it and cook the whole thing together it will be fantastic pizza. Still gave it 4 stars because the ingredients are so good, its a really nice place and the staff are great. PLEASE FIX THIS, THIS PLACE...
