26 September, 2024: Absolutely love this joint. Tucked inside a covered car park, one could easily miss it. But find it you must. It truly is a discovery. We ordered two fried rice dishes and, apart from the meats, expected the fried-rice base to taste the same. We were wrong! Firstly, it had 'wok breath', the taste was balanced, and the rice grains were well separated. Then the surprise - the rice in the 'Pork Holy Basil Fried Rice with Grilled Pork Neck' (ข้าวผัดกะเพราหมูคั่วและ คอหมูย่าง) was fragrantly porky, while the rice in the 'Beef Holy Basil Fried Rice and Beef Steak (ข้าวผัดกะเพราเนื้อคั่วและ เนื้อสเต็ก) had a robust, beefy taste. This is what we call 'attention to detail'. The beef steak was even properly medium-rare as requested. Meanwhile, the 'Grilled Pork Steak with Nam Jim Jaew' (สเต็กหมูปิ้ง น้ำจิ้มแจ่ว) was juicyly meaty, with a slighly charred outside. Deserving a separate mention, the 'Nam Jim Jaew' dipping sauce was fragant, savoury and sour - a great pairing for the meat. Reduce the sweetness, add a bit more heat, and it'll be perfect.
Nam Jim Jaew (meaning 'dipping sauce from the Northeast) is a Thai dipping sauce from the northeastern region. It's a versatile dipping sauce for most meat dishes, especially grilled meats. It works on steaks, roast chicken, pork chops, sticky rice and even crunchy vegetables. Ingredients include fish sauce, lime juice and/or tamarind, sugar, dried chilies, toasted rice powder and fresh herbs. Follow saphan9discovery (FB/IG) for...
Read moreReturned here multiple times on my recent trip in BKK. They have a bunch of different offerings which are all tasty in their own regard. Some forms of beef were a bit tough at times, but the flavors of the overall dishes were always good. They offer multiple sides as part of a set for any dish which make it a nice dining experience. The Thai tea was also good, not too sweet. I would however love it if they had an option to cook the dishes with butter as opposed to the vegetable oil they promote. I know it’s Thailand, but the fact that vegetable oils aren’t healthy for us and are in fact poisoning us has to be circulating around other areas of the world. I’m sure even higher quality places are using vegetable oils too, but I thought I’d mention it since here they seem to promote it proudly by displaying the oil which is strange given how bad...
Read moreWent here on Monday noon, waited quite long for the food. Cashier staff was very rude -- when I ordered she didn't even respond to my order and moved on looking to the other person coming with me. The food was okay but was not worth the price. The fried egg was great. The beef stir fried rice was nice. However, the sirloin was overcooked and tasted like just a grilled pork. My friend custom-ordered Buddy's favorite with salmon but the salmon was overcooked and didn't get the same beef stir fried rice -- just a normal stir fried rice without any beef (not sure if intended or not). The price for the custom order was close to 400 THB which is unbelievable for the quality. Would...
