Sri Ananda Bhawan, conveniently located near the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Silom, Bangkok, offers a delightful experience for anyone seeking authentic Indian cuisine. The food here is excellent, with dishes prepared by skilled Indian chefs and a diverse menu to choose from.
Highlights:
Paneer 65: Absolutely fantastic, a must-try for anyone visiting.
Chutney and Sambhar: Flavorful and well-prepared.
Wheat Parota & Mixed Veg Curry: Both were delicious and satisfying.
Mutton Thali: At around 280 THB, this dish stood out with its balance of flavors and generous portions. Pairing it with naan or chapati elevated the experience.
Palak Paneer: Unique with a clean paste and an interesting spicy twist.
Desserts: The Gulab Jamun was delightful, and the ice cream was exactly as expected—classic and refreshing.
For a group meal, the pricing is reasonable. For example, a meal with one Mutton Thali, one Chicken Thali, Palak Paneer, Garlic Naan, Chapathi, dessert (Gulab Jamun and Kulfi), and water totaled approximately 1150 THB, which felt like great value.
Room for Improvement: The only downside is the hygiene in the kitchen. The visible mess in the see-through kitchen could be unsettling, even if the food quality remained uncompromised. Addressing this would significantly enhance the overall dining experience.
Final Thoughts: Sri Ananda Bhawan is a fantastic spot for anyone craving authentic Indian food in Silom. With its flavorful dishes and decent pricing, it’s worth a visit. I’m already looking forward to trying their dosas and exploring more of the menu on...
Read moreWe had eaten here before and enjoyed the food. We took our friends here for a birthday meal, we arrived around 8:00 it was a party of 10. The first problem of the evening was that they said we could eat there and then proceeded to take 10 minutes to put tables together whilst we stood there awkwardly waiting. If they didn't want us to dine there, they could have said there were too many people and/or it was too late. Before we sat down we asked again if it was okay to order food and they said it was no problem. Second problem is that they would not serve us any alcohol but they were serving other customers alcohol when we asked why they said it was too late which it was not. Many of us got a thali set, some chicken, some mutton. Third problem, the food took ages to come out. However we understood that there were a lot of people in our party. Fourth problem a lot of the lamb was stringy or fatty and inedible. Considering that this is one of the most expensive meat for the thali, we expected better quality. And finally to top it off as we were sitting there finishing our food, instead of telling us that they would be closing shortly decided that they would flick the lights off and on rapidly. We try to finish our food quickly but the people working there still wouldn't speak to us and just flicked the lights indicating we should leave. It was extremely embarrassing as we had recommended this restaurant to our friends and everyone left with a sour taste in their mouth and it wasn't just from the food. We will not be...

The owner of this restaurant had responded very positively to my feedback, and had made some improvements to the food.
I brought my friend along this time.
I had the mutton thali set. The portion of mutton was significantly improved, and the cuts of the mutton was far better this time, with more meat, and less fat and bones. There was a mutton curry as well as a mutton varuval in the set. The taste was very spicy with rich flavours. I loved it. Quite satisfied with the lunch.
My friend had the fish thali set. The fish set comes with fish curry and a fried fish. The total amount of fish was satisfactory. However, I personally think that having one slice of fish (with the combined size of the two pieces that they currently give), served as either a fried fish or fish curry (per the customer's request) would probably be better. A thicker cut off fish would be juicier and tastier. My friend agreed with my thought as well. As for the taste, my friend (who originates from Sri Lanka), commented that the fish curry reminded him of fish curries from Sri Lanka, and was very spicy to his liking.
So, overall, a very satisfying, delicious lunch. I'm glad that the owner has responded so positively to my feedback. I do hope they maintain these standards, and they can possibly be the best South Indian, non vegetarian restaurant in Bangkok.
