It was my son’s 18th birthday, and since our favourite cuisine is Indian, we decided to come to Mama's Restaurant for lunch.
Please see below my review:
Service: The gentleman who met us when we walked in wasn’t overly welcoming or friendly. I waited 15 mins for my beer to be served, so I went and asked where it was and they apologized as the guy forgot. The food was delivered 20 mins after we placed our order. One small bottle of water was given complimentary, which was nice. See below 🤔 Rating: 1/5
Food: They have a very extensive menu, which includes: Indian, Chinese and Italian dishes🤔
Atmosphere: The chairs are comfortable. They played some nice background music. It had a nice e vibe, but the restaurant is very dark. Rating: 3/5
My order: 1 x Chicken Kadai (Spicy) 1 x Chicken Kadai (Medium Spice) We asked for both dishes to be boneless. Mine wasn’t spicy as requested. The chicken tasted funny, so I didn’t eat it. Price: 260 THB Rating: 1/5
1 x Aloo Gobi Matar It was very salty & I was unable to eat it. Price: 160 THB Rating: 1/5
2 x Plain Naan Price: 35 THB Rating: 3/5 (I didn’t try this, but my son did)
1 x Large Chang Served semi cold Price: 120 THB Rating: 3/5
When I asked for the bill, and after sharing my feedback with the two male waiting staff, they ignored my feedback and all the plates/food that hadn’t been touched and asked me to pay the full bill, which was nearly 1,000 THB.
When I reiterated I had eaten and my son’s birthday lunch was a disaster, they asked me to wait to speak to the manager. After waiting 5 mins, I met the manager, who was professional, again I shared my feedback.
In the end I paid for the Chang and Complimentary water 🤔
Overall Rating: 1/5 (My son’s birthday lunch was ruined and I...
Read moreFantastic food! The recommended mutton masala was just tender enough to eat and so generous with the sauce (I ate at least five large spoons of it). If I had any criticism about the food, I would say give less source - less waste. The mutton sheek kebab was delicious, but a little bit too salty for my liking, but I would say in their defence it is catered for the discerning Indian customer’s taste, so no minus points just a fair warning to others. The pitta breads were faultless, and I really like the unique flavour of the gobi naan. The Indian cakes are where the restaurant truly stood out. They were really fresh and delicious and the masala tea was strong in taste and flavour as requested by us and I highly recommend. The atmosphere outside was great as you have the view of the river and the main dining area looked reasonable however the area in the private room is very simple and overall the decor could be much better improved however it was acceptable. I must say though Raj who you see in my photo, is in my opinion a great asset to the restaurant. He helped guide us through the new menu and persuaded me to try something new. I still prefer chicken tikka over mutton tikka, this is just my preference, but the mutton flavour was delicious! I could tell Raj really shines in front of house. Raj has exceptional communication skills and is a valuable bridge between customers and restaurant staff. Thank you Raj for your service we will definitely come...
Read moreUpdates: So, we decided to go back there twice in the last 6 wks. It seems that the management has changed. The last time we went, I ordered stuffed paranthas. They simply gave the paranthas without the pickles or yogurt dish. When I enquired, he stated nonchalantly that their clientele is Thai and they don't cater to non-locals! Their demeanor was imbued with arrogance and was worth videotaping. Unfortunately, I didn't have my gopro with me. Also, they're not all that cheap. There are at least ten Indian food places within Stone's throw from that place. Also, for example, in Minburi district which has very few farangs, go to Ayu indian place. They serve real indian food. Also, try Sugam restaurant which is in a Non-Farang area of Bangkok. Both of these serve authentic indian food for all. Now, I am on one year travel to Thailand and am sampling restaurants in BKK and other places. In Phuket, go to Indian Flame restaurant. All these are just fine. We ate there about a month ago and plan on going back in a day or two. The food and the snacks are all great at a good price. It's worth a trip as it's part of...
