Loco Taqueria: A Fun Oasis with Potential

First Impressions: Located conveniently in Üsküdar, Loco Taqueria boasts a vibrant atmosphere. The decorations instantly transport you to a festive Mexican scene, making it a fun spot to unwind. Finding a table was easy, and the overall space felt comfortable and inviting.

Food: While the menu offered a variety of classic Mexican dishes like tacos, burritos, and quesadillas, the selection itself was a bit limited. The portion sizes were the biggest disappointment, especially considering the price point. For example, I found the chicken burrito to be tasty, but on the smaller side compared to what I'd expect for the price. It was a similar story with the quesadillas and veggie burrito. However, a big thumbs up goes to the chips and salsa! The chips were clearly homemade and deliciously fresh, and the salsas offered a nice range of flavors to complement them. The drinks were also refreshing and a perfect accompaniment to the meal.

Service: This is where Loco Taqueria truly shined! The waiter who served us was incredibly friendly and attentive. He went above and beyond to ensure we had an enjoyable experience, and speaking English was a big plus. We definitely regretted not leaving a bigger tip!

The Final Verdict: Loco Taqueria has the potential to be a great casual Mexican restaurant in Üsküdar. The ambiance is fun, the staff is fantastic, and the chips and salsa are a true highlight. However, the limited menu and small portion sizes in relation to the price need to be addressed. As a Mexican, I can say that the food here doesn’t quite match what we consider authentic Mexican cuisine, especially when it comes to dishes like tacos, burritos, nachos, and especially what they serve as “carne asada.” I tried the carne asada burrito, carne asada taco, birria asada taco, and the nachos with carne asada.

The carne asada burrito was actually made with barbacoa, not carne asada, and included rice, beans, and lettuce inside. That’s not how we traditionally prepare a carne asada burrito, especially coming from a city known for them.

The carne asada taco, another dish that’s traditional where I’m from, was again more like barbacoa and definitely not carne asada.

The birria asada taco wasn’t really birria, but it came closer to what birria should taste like.

The nachos with carne asada were disappointing. They tasted sweet, didn’t have cheese, and once again, the meat was more like barbacoa, not carne asada. The flavor was far from what nachos should taste like.

However, the salsa was really good, though they give way too little of it.

That said, the flavors were still enjoyable, and the décor made me feel at home, which I loved. They also play regional Mexican music, which adds to the vibe. It’s now one of my favorite spots, but more for the flavors rather than for authentic Mexican food.

Got a chance to visit Iftar with friends. We ordered multiple dishes including tacos, nachos, and quesadillas. Everything was amazing and the portion size was good. They were nice to serve each of us by making individual plates instead of one single dish. The pricing is very convenient too. We also ordered tropical drinks which tasted amazing. The cherry on top was warm Churios toasted with cinnamon and served with chocolates and Carmel sauce. The ambiance is very good and is super friendly staff and nice. They also speak English and Spanish in case.

P.S. Though it's not an iftar restaurant they served us a mini iftar platter with dates, cucumber, cheese, and bread.
