Maderia Sushi Bar — Restaurant in Şişli

The restaurant itself is located very well and someone invested a lot of money in the interior. The staff are very friendly and the service is top notch, however the food is below average or average at best. I came here to eat sushi and I assumed a 4.7 star restaurant know how to make good sushi, however sadly I was wrong. To start off with the starters, who puts prawn crackers as starters. I highly recommend you remove this asap. The chicken gyoza were good however on the dry side. We tried one of their signature rolls, which was a bit too wild for my taste. The California roll, which may be considered as a safe bet for many sushi lovers, was very bland. The Toro was not Toro. I must say that they do know how to make a good spicy tuna roll and their sea bass carpacio was also good as well. We were there as 4 people, tasty food, fair price. Sushi with 8 piece differs around 500 to 700 tl. Cocktails are around 500 tl. Service fee applied as 10%. The only thing that bothered us was the waiter that was always asking if we want something more. It was a bit too pushy. We felt like we need to leave asap. We sat 1 hour at most anyways so it was really awkward and disturbing. Food and atmosphere wise it was good. Also he acted very weird when one of us order non alcoholic drink but not a cocktail. It was disrespectful. For a michelin star awarded restaurant it was a very unnecessary behavior. I would understand if we would sit for hours but not ordering anything but we sat like 1 hour max.

(First of all, the atmosphere that greets you is excellent. What sets this place apart from other venues is that it makes you feel as if you are dining in a different country. The fact that the clientele comes from all over the world reinforces this feeling.

After 7:00 PM, there is a live DJ performance, which is wonderful. The music is played at a pleasant volume that won’t tire your ears. The transitions and harmony between the songs are better than in most clubs—our thanks to the DJ.

The staff are very attentive; they answer your questions with a smile, without getting bored or showing any sign of irritation. The service is fast and complete.

The food is not at the “wow, what did I just eat?” level, but it is definitely among the better restaurants you’ve tried, and it’s a place you’ll want to visit again. The portions are medium-sized, so I recommend ordering a variety of dishes to feel full.

We chose it for a special evening, and we’re glad we did—we loved it. Even though it was just two hours, it made us feel like we were somewhere else, and the flavors were an added bonus.
