MERDO — Restaurant in Beyoğlu

I strongly advise avoiding this restaurant at all costs. From start to finish, my experience here was nothing short of terrible. The restaurant is poorly managed, the staff are unprofessional and rude, and the hospitality is completely nonexistent. When I arrived, the cashier had a poker face, didn’t speak English, and treated customers with complete indifference. I placed an order for a takeaway sandwich and specifically requested no tomatoes. Despite this, the staff ignored my request. While I tried to clarify at the counter, one waiter rudely instructed me to wait outside in the rain for my order. Eventually, another staff member handed me my sandwich—but it was completely full of tomatoes, in direct contradiction to my request, and then pushed me out of the restaurant. The lack of care, communication, and basic respect for customers was astonishing. This is not just a bad restaurant—it’s an unpleasant, hostile experience. Tourists, families, and locals alike should stay far away. There are plenty of other places in the area where you can be treated with basic politeness and receive what you actually ordered. We observed this: if you are a first timer of stuffed mussels here and ordered a plate of mussels, the mussels will be served as is, and you have to painstakingly peel open the mussels up yourself. And there will be one or two empty shells which is absolutely unfair especially when you order 15 pieces. While eating we noticed there are other patrons that were served with a beautiful plate of opened mussels, (please see attached photo) and learned that we must ask the staff to open the mussels when placing the order. We then noted that tourists are served with a plate of closed mussels whereas savvy locals has the plumped beautiful mussels artfully arranged on a round plate. We reordered again the following day and can confirm this: the opened mussels are plumper that the closed ones that we received the day before. And obviously no empty shells. Horrible experience. I’m a tourist who doesn’t speak Turkish, the man who was placing my order went to put through the kebabs as the more expensive option which I didn’t order and a coke instead of water. When I noticed he had done so, he was annoyed and was very aggravated when I simply asked the question. He then gave me a pre prepared order that was cold and incorrect.
