After island hopping and the coffee at Barbaros, we returned to the old town and decided to have dinner here - this side of the pier/corridor under the bridge is calmer than the other side - the piers and crowds.
Fishing 🎣 lines and pedestrians are the same as the other side.
All the restaurants have one or two solicitors. They hawk the ‘fresh seafoods’ pretty aggressively, keeping the fish 🐠 and lobsters 🦞 etc in a bin with ice. I didn’t ask if these died seafood is what they called fresh. In my diction or my little life, fresh means still kicking and screaming.
The serving staff is way too eager to bring out the wine: we were discussing what to drink, so told him to give us a few minutes. He returned with a glass of white wine. I didn’t order it but took it, to avoid him the trouble.
The bread and tapenade are good. The light colored olives 🫒 remind me of Mulatto.
Two fish courses are ok and my sea bass has scales - it’s a turn off for me.

Read moreOn our first day in Istanbul, we arrived late in the evening and set out for a walk to find a place to eat. Luckily, we discovered Marinero, one of the many restaurants on the Galata Bridge, but truly a hidden gem! We were warmly welcomed by the staff, and after looking at the menu, we both ordered some delightful starters and dorada for our main course. Everything was so delicious—fresh and perfectly cooked! The service was unforgettable, with the entire restaurant team making us feel right at home. They created a wonderful welcome not just for our first night but set the tone for the whole stay in Istanbul. Simply good. Simply delicious. I highly recommend this place for the food, the staff, and the atmosphere! Thank you, team at...
Read moreThis is the ultimately worst experience I have ever had in Istanbul. I regretted not having checked reviews before I got ridiculously ripped off. Portions are just 1/4 of other restaurant, meaning already-pricey food are much more expensive than what they cost. Pulp salad served at a tiny little sauce container was just a couple of bites at as much as 80 TL. Ridicoulius and hilarious. I had to order 2 more main dishes. More importantly, that salad tasted like a preserved canned food. In addition, all little appetizers are very old, which is very rare in other Turkish restaurants. The whole staff was extremely rude in and out. You'd better not fall for this tourist-ripping...
