I am so sad to have to write this review. Sand Box has been a place I look forward to on each of my many trips a year to Provo. Unfortunately, we had a very negative experience with the owner, Natalie, last week.
I walked in with my 4-month old baby and best friend, whose birthday we are here to celebrate. We had been craving their lemon chicken skewers and chicken curry so we were excited to finally be there! Natalie helped us get situated with a smile and I was very grateful, as it was warm out and my baby needed to relax in some AC.
My friend ordered nearly $100 worth of food (easy to do there), and we sat and waited while our two other friends joined us with their acai bowls from next door.
A few minutes later, the owner walked up to our table and in the most condescending manner told us “I don’t know what they do in AmErIcA or CaNaDa, but I would never bring someone else’s food into another establishment…” and proceeded to tell us how it upset her staff, etc, which wasn’t true at all after speaking to the lovely lady who had been helping us.
We are a group of multi-6 and 7 figure business owners ourselves, so would have completely understood and been apologetic had this been handled the right way. I cannot imagine ever speaking to a customer the way we were spoken to. I’d surely be out of business before long with an attitude like that.
We were so uncomfortable after her abrasive approach that we asked our server if we could please get all of our food to go. My friend, who had been so excited for lunch at Sand Box, even experienced an anxiety attack after the unnecessary confrontation.
The experience has stayed with us the entire duration of our trip, and for that reason I can’t see myself ever returning or recommending this establishment to anyone ever again. Truly...
Read moreFirst time here, i googled some breakfast places and this placed seemed highly recommended and reviews were good so we decided to try it. There is plenty of street parking. This place is like a 3 in 1 facility, they sell coffee, breakfast and merchandise. So we were looking for the menu on the sandbox side and found the menu sheet next to the register, the women at the register was not friendly she mainly stared at us. And asked "if we were ok" because we stood at the register trying to decide what we wanted from the menu. We weren't really sure if this was a full breakfast cafe, so i asked if they made omelets.. the menu said "build your own".. she looked at me puzzled. She said no (coldly) and started tapping her finger on the menu.. so we can refer to the menu sheet. I didn't realize that you can only order breakfast sandwiches. This was our first time here and i felt like the woman at the register could have been more customer service oriented and explained they only served sandwiches/and you can order drinks from either side. Even when she asked me what i wanted to drink, i said ill get a coffee from the other side and she looked at me and said "its the same, you can order here".....i didnt even feel comfortable asking what flavored lattes they had available. This is a really nicely decorated spot. The food was good, but we were really turned off by the lack of friendliness. This island gets alot of tourist and everyone may not be familiar how a particular places operates, it makes a difference when the staff is nice to you and you...
Read moreTitle: Disappointing Experience at The Sandbox
I had high hopes for The Sandbox, but unfortunately, my experience fell short. Upon entering, we were not greeted, which set a negative tone for our visit. We sat just a few feet away from two staff members, and it was disheartening to go unacknowledged for three full minutes.
After placing our order, we waited seven minutes for two simple drinks—a can of Coke and a black coffee. It was frustrating to see one of the staff members distracted by her phone during that time. I had to remind her about our drinks twice, even though the Coke was conveniently located in the cooler right behind her.
As for the food, my wife was disappointed with her eggs, while I found the avocado toast to be decent. Given that we were staying in the area for a week, we decided to try The Sandbox once, but we won’t be returning. On a brighter note, the coffee shop next door had a friendly staff that truly seemed to care about...
