During my first experience with Thai Orchid I ordered takeout and the food was exceptional. However, a recent visit with a friend was marred by an unprovoked negative attitude from the staff.
Upon entering, I greeted with a "good evening" before picking up a menu. Surprisingly, I was chided for not saying "excuse me" and accused of having no manners. I thought good evening was polite enough, but I guess I was mistaken. As I stepped aside to allow my friend to view the menu, a casual exchange between us about what to order was interrupted by the cashier. She sharply told us we were wasting her time, and that we should indicate when we're ready to order. Mind you, we hadn't indicated we were ready prior, so I'm not sure why she was expecting us.
Though we were standing out of the way near the corner, we were asked to sit as she said we were obstructing the space. We did so with no rebuttal.
Soon after when I signaled that we were ready to order, she came over to us to take our order (I presumed), but instead she accused us of being disrespectful and "coming to play," wasting her time, claiming she was very busy, etc.. My friend responded stating that we didn't come to play (obviously... we're not children), we came to order. However the lady continued to scold us like a parent would a child. In light of this unprofessional treatment, I decided to return the menu and leave without ordering.
The takeout I had last week was so good that I wanted my friend to try it as well. It's disappointing that our first (and only) experience dining had us treated with such animosity.
This stark contrast to my initial experience left me wondering if our treatment was influenced by our race, as during my first visit I was alone in the restaurant, but this time there were two white patrons who seemed to face no issues. Or perhaps her behavior was because of our youthful and unsophisticated appearance.

Read moreBe warned, the attitude of the man who takes the order is horrific. The food is edible I would not describe this as the best Thai food or authentic. The red curry is good (rice is not included $2 extra). The shrimp rolls were good. Pad thai was not authentic and did not taste good. Drunken noodle was okay. The amount they give for the price is a joke. The biggest issue I had was the service attitude. I ordered 3 entrees as take out was quoted 25 minutes wait time but ended up waiting a hour - no utensils were given. I asked for chopsticks - no response from the old man or any type of acknowledgement. He turned and brought me one, so I then asked him for another pair. He stomps to the back and comes back and ridicules me for not telling him the number of chopsticks. Save your money and go to Turk...
Read moreFemale server/bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. My husband ordered a duck red curry which he loved! I ordered the regular sized coconut soup with shrimp added, which was under $15 according to menu. A quite large yet delicious bowl of soup was served to me...I was pleasantly surprised at the generous portion. When the bill came my soup was listed as $23.95 and they charged me $2 on top of that for a side of rice that I'd canceled and certainly did not receive. The male server laughed when I asked why I was charged for something I did not order, and joked, "well, did you eat it all?" I told him that I didn't order that entree and he again laughed and seemed to not care that they got my order wrong. I think the food was good but I certainly would never return after being treated so...
