I ventured forth to PJ O'Reilley's at Le Royal Meridian, expecting a run-of-the-mill picnic brunch. But lo and behold, Bastille Day had clearly decided to gatecrash the party, turning what could have been a pleasant Saturday into a full-blown culinary revolution. Tucked away in their rather ingeniously "outdoor" cooled tent, perfectly positioned to survey the shimmering pool like a benevolent food dictator, the vibe was less Irish pub, more fancy garden party, complete with a band so good they made AC/DC sound like a symphony, proving that sometimes, even rock gods need a touch of Abu Dhabi refinement. Seriously, this brunch is a must, and I rarely say that without a significant bribe or an exceptional macaron.
And speaking of exceptional, the food, oh the glorious food! Forget your preconceived notions of pub grub; this was French cuisine doing the can-can on your taste buds. The oysters were so fresh, they practically whispered secrets of the sea, especially with that house cocktail sauce. Then there was the freshly churned garlic butter – a mountain of creamy gold that deserves its own national holiday. But the real showstoppers? A raclette station, a brave and brilliant move for any UAE brunch, the silken chicken terrine, a beef tartare station where dreams were made to order, and a T-bone steak so perfectly cooked, it brought a tear to my eye (and that’s saying something, I’m usually quite composed). The sweet finale of profiteroles, macarons, and mango eclairs? Pure, unadulterated bliss. Highly recommend this culinary romp for your...
Read moreWent for cooked breakfast as recommended as one of the best places for a fry up. Beware, they've put prices up & not changed the website. The Full English or Big breakfast is now 85 AED (but advertised on Instagram & their website as 75 AED) which is misleading but also difficult to justify in my opinion given our latest experience. Plus you can no longer use the entertainer on breakfast. So, the sausages were undercooked, pink in the middle, the bacon was burnt, black in places. They forgot the black pudding so we had to ask for it, this then of course turned up late after we'd eaten half our meal. It had been deep fried too! Thin crispy layer on the outside but runny & wet in the centre, not how black pudding should be. Like they'd had to knock it up quickly. The hash browns had been deep fried to within an inch of their lives, possibly twice as they were dripping with oil, leaving a small puddle on the plate. Over all it all felt greasy, greasier than a fry up should be, to the point it felt predominantly oily. Fried eggs were overcooked & had developed that cracked old look on the yoke. A tiny pot of beans to the point I could count how many (about 20). Half a large mushroom only & not the biggest of portions overall. Oh & enough butter to spread a whole loaf. See pic. Even the pot of tea was provided warm rather than hot. All very disappointing especially given the price....
Read moreOne of the worst experiences in Abu Dhabi. My and my friend were here a couple of days ago, okay service, good food and drinks. Overal a nice experience. Today me and my lady friend were having a drink after a long day at work, my friend ordered a Guinness, and I ordered a water since I was driving. She felt that the beer was off tasting, i tried it and confirmed that the beer seemed like it was pre-poured and kept in the fridge. Not cold enough and flat. We called over the staff to ask to exchange the beer, he started arguing with my lady friend without even letting her finish explaining why she wanted it changed. We were not drunk or rude to him. We asked for the manager and he sad he was the manager. He said his name is Shaham and he refused to tell us his full name. We ordered food as well but wanted to leave right away. We asked him to bring us the check. He refused to listen to us and left. Then he came back in under a minute and said no need to pay because we didn’t even finish our drinks. He didn’t even greet us when he first arrived to the table, what he said was “what is the problem?” Like he was annoyed with us. He was not willing to listen to our problem. Definitely will not be coming back here....
