In the ever-expanding culinary universe of Dubai, a city known for its skyscrapers and luxurious lifestyle, Coucou attempts to make its mark not by the extravagance of its dishes but by the breathtaking panoramic views it offers. Nestled at a vantage point on the top floor of the St. Regis Hotel on the Palm, it promises an all-encompassing glimpse of Dubai's architectural marvels—from the iconic Burj Khalifa and Downtown skyline to the sprawling elegance of Sheikh Zayed, Jumeirah, The Palm, and Marina. It’s a view that competes with the apex of global dining views, making Coucou a coveted destination for those seeking a meal above the clouds.

However, the restaurant seems to falter where it matters most. Despite the service team's evident effort and the occasional touch of generosity, such as complimentary mocktails and exclusive sneak peeks of the rooftop, their lack of knowledge and finesse in handling inquiries about their menu items reveals a glaring need for improved training. When questions arise about the origin of a premium-priced dish, such as the 500-dirham ribeye steak, uncertain answers do little to instill confidence in their culinary authenticity or justify the steep prices.

The most pronounced disappointment lies in the cuisine itself. For a venue perched in the echelons of Dubai's dining scene, the expectation of fine dining quality is unmet, leaving a gap that no view, however spectacular, can bridge. The menu, priced ambitiously, fails to deliver on the promise of luxury. A truffle pizza, bereft of the finesse one would expect for 270 dirhams, presents itself as nothing more than truffle cream on a pre-baked base. The calamari, served cold and overly seasoned, the questionable freshness of the snails, the sour tang of expired tomatoes accompanying the burrata, and a ribeye lacking any signature marbling, all speak to a disconnection between price and quality, leaving a taste of disappointment rather than delight.

Coucou, with its unmatched location, could have been a beacon of culinary excellence in Dubai. Yet, it stands as a testament to a missed opportunity. The apparent identity crisis—straddling the line between a bar, club, and restaurant—leaves much to be desired in terms of food quality and dining experience. Observations of questionable hygiene practices in the kitchen further tarnish the reputation of an establishment that could have otherwise set a benchmark for dining excellence in the city.

While the allure of Dubai’s skyline from Coucou’s vantage point is undeniable, it serves as a mere backdrop to a scene of culinary underachievement. It's a poignant reminder that in the world of gastronomy, the essence of dining transcends the visual feast and lies fundamentally in the plate presented before us. For those seeking a culinary experience that matches the grandeur of its setting, the search continues beyond the doors of Coucou. Though I may return for a drink to savor the view, it's with the hope that the establishment will revisit its culinary direction and live up to the potential its remarkable location so...

Extremely Disappointing Experience Unprofessional Staff and Poor Customer Service

I had a truly unfortunate experience at this restaurant. Upon arrival, I gave the name for my reservation and was immediately told that my voice was ā€œtoo lowā€ and I should speak up. I complied, only to be told that my reservation was incorrect despite the fact that my group was already seated inside.

Instead of attempting to resolve the confusion, the front desk staff, along with the security guard, ignored the situation and prioritized assisting other guests who arrived after me. I was pushed aside and watched at least six other parties be let in ahead of me.

Eventually, I was allowed to enter, but as I walked in, the front desk staff abruptly called out that hats were not allowed. I respectfully acknowledged the comment and continued walking, only to be aggressively pursued by the security guard, who ran up from a distance, shouting in my face and physically tried to prevent me from entering. It was an unnecessarily hostile and confrontational response over a minor dress code detail, which I had already agreed to comply with.

At that point, I felt so disrespected that I chose to leave, ruining what was meant to be an enjoyable evening for both myself and my friends.

This establishment seems more concerned with appearances than genuine hospitality. Unless you walk in flashing cash, expect to be treated with arrogance and disregard. The behavior of the staff especially the security guard was completely uncalled for and unprofessional.

This is a 3-4 star restaurant at best, with average food, but the staff act like they’re guarding a top secret government facility. A word of advice to the security team: aggressive behavior and shouting at guests is not acceptable customer service. Also, basic hygiene and respectful communication go a long way in hospitality.

Would not recommend. One of the worst experiences I’ve...

Disappointing Experience with a Great View

While the view of the Palm and Dubai Marina was stunning, the overall experience fell far short of expectations, especially for a venue marketed as fine dining.

Areas of Concern: Entrance and Ambiance: Entering through a gift shop and sharing a public elevator with viewing platform visitors diminished the exclusivity one expects from a fine dining establishment. Seating Issues: Despite booking for 8 people, we were given a table for 6 and had to argue for an additional small table. This lack of preparedness was frustrating and unprofessional. Food Presentation: The quality of the food was good, but presentation missed the mark. We ordered a Tomahawk steak priced at 1049 AED, which was served in pre-cut pieces with the bone. At this price point, the steak should be carved tableside or served whole. The presentation left us questioning if the dish matched its description. Entertainment: The entertainment felt random and uncoordinated. For example, some waiters were dressed in Mexican costumes to serve fireworks champagne to a single table, creating an odd and exclusive vibe rather than enhancing the atmosphere. Pricing and Transparency: The experience was significantly overpriced for the atmosphere provided. Additionally, some charges, including taxes, were unclear, and the server was unable to explain them adequately.

Positive Highlights: • The 360-degree view of the Palm and Dubai Marina from the viewing platform was breathtaking, although accessing it required climbing three floors. • The food quality was good, even if the presentation didn’t meet expectations.

Final Thoughts:

While the view is impressive, this venue feels more like an overpriced viewing platform than a true fine dining destination. Improvements in service, presentation, and overall atmosphere are needed to justify the...

We had high expectations for CouCou Dubai, but unfortunately, our experience didn’t live up to what was advertised as fine dining. Our drinks were served, and within just a few minutes, the starters arrived — which raised some concerns about preparation time. The ā€œfried calamariā€ turned out to be mostly fried green chili or paprika, and the baked potato with duck liver came heavily covered in BBQ sauce, which overwhelmed the flavor and didn’t seem fresh — more like something quickly reheated. The main dish, lobster linguine, was also underwhelming. The lobster shell on the plate looked more decorative than edible, and the actual lobster meat was chewy, hidden under a sauce that tasted more like a canned pasta sauce than something you'd expect at a premium restaurant. As someone who enjoys cooking, I honestly felt I could have prepared a better dish at home. From a European perspective, the overall experience felt more like a lounge or bistro, not fine dining as promoted. At a required minimum spend of 500 AED per person, the quality and presentation of the food just didn’t match the price point. Also, a note on dress code: it would be helpful to let guests know that the wind can be quite intense and warm (wearing a long-sleeve shirt became uncomfortable very quickly). On a positive note, the staff were friendly and polite throughout the evening, which we appreciated. However, the marketing of the restaurant feels a bit misleading. With the right expectations, perhaps positioned more as a trendy lounge with decent food, it could be a more enjoyable experience.
