Shockingly Bad Service at MOGIYA Al Seef – A Place We Used to Love
We’ve been regulars at MOGIYA for a long time — having visited more than five times, ordering home deliveries as well — and have always appreciated the delicious and consistently good food. That’s why we chose to bring a big group of over 10 people for a nice evening out. Unfortunately, what we experienced this time was nothing short of shocking.
The service was the worst we’ve ever encountered in any restaurant. The waitresses were clearly overwhelmed and disorganised. They lied about not delivering our first order, only for us to prove them at the very end that it had already been brought and eaten by us (they just cooked more). One staff member told us there were no pending orders, while another insisted there were. No one seemed to know what was going on.
When one of our guests politely raised concerns about the kimchi and shrimps being poorly prepared, the manager began arguing instead of resolving the issue professionally. To make matters worse, she told us that one waitress cried because we were “ordering too much” and blamed us for potential food waste.
We were then informed we would need to pay a special “food waste fine” — something we had never been told on any of our previous visits and which is not mentioned anywhere in the restaurant or menu. On top of that, we saw other groups leave much more food than us without being charged any such fine. The main thing is that we advocate for not wasting food but this is so strange and vague. Therefore we paid for our own food. And every person is eating of what they ordered.
The situation became even more absurd when the staff brought dishes we never ordered, and then claimed that those items were “mandatory” to be served and stay on the table — even though we didn’t ask for them and had no interest in them. Those dishes were fully in oil and loaded with fries so we would not feel hungry and not order fresh salmon or others as we could, according to our package. During last times this never happened. That is why this is all strange.
Despite paying for everything ourselves, we were met with rude, angry expressions and passive-aggressive behaviour from the waitresses all evening. It genuinely felt like we were being punished for simply showing up with a big group.
By the end, everyone left feeling deeply dissatisfied, disrespected, and honestly cheated. It was a waste of money, time, and appetite. Some of us even discussed filing a formal complaint with the consumer protection authorities, because what happened wasn’t just bad service — it was a breach of our rights as paying customers.
It’s incredibly sad to write this, as we once loved MOGIYA. But this experience was unacceptable, and we truly hope management re-evaluates how they treat...
Read moreDuring my recent visits to Al Seef, we came upon this Japanese restaurant, MOGI-YA at Hampton by Hilton, we had the pleasure of indulging in their culinary offerings on two separate occasions, and I must say, both experiences left an indelible mark on my palate.
Upon our first visit, we were enticed by their Kabayan promo, priced at AED99 on regular days and AED109 on weekdays, excluding beverages. However, it's worth noting that the promo requires a minimum of 4 people (only Kabayan or Filipino) in order to avail the promo. This offer, valid until March 31, 2024, is truly a steal, and I sincerely hope they consider extending it.
From the moment the first dish arrived, it was evident that this dining experience would be exceptional. Whether it was the succulent Wagyu beef for barbecue, the tender and flavorful pickled beef skewers, or the delicate assortment of sashimi comprising tuna, nigiri, and salmon, each bite melts in your mouth. The freshness of the seafood, particularly the sashimi, was unparalleled, leaving a lingering sweetness on the palate.
While the selection of sushi rolls was extensive, encompassing classics like California maki and adventurous options like spicy salmon rolls, I was slightly disappointed by the absence of tempura from the promotional menu. Nonetheless, the grilled shrimps and an array of enticing side dishes compensated for this minor setback.
Despite the absence of beverages in the promo, the overall dining experience remained exceptional. The upscale ambiance of MOGI-YA restaurant added to the charm, and the attentive service further elevated the dining experience. Special commendation goes to the manager, whose adeptness in guest management was evident when I asked for a special request.
Accessibility is a crucial aspect of any dining establishment, and I was pleased to find that MOGI-YA restaurant at Hamptons by Hilton caters to individuals with disabilities, ensuring a comfortable and inclusive experience for all patrons.
Furthermore, the cleanliness of the facilities, particularly the restrooms, was noteworthy and contributed to an overall pleasant dining ambiance, although I encountered a minor inconvenience regarding mosquitoes at my assigned table, which detracted slightly from the overall dining experience.
In conclusion, my visits to MOGI-YA at Hamptons by Hilton were nothing short of delightful, thanks to the exceptional culinary offerings and impeccable service. I eagerly anticipate my return and sincerely hope that they continue to offer the Kabayan promo, allowing more diners to savor the culinary delights that this establishment...
Read moreIt took us some time to give the review for this amazing restaurant, which we are hoping that the owner would give importance to all the points that we will highlight- As we always give fair reviews. We would like to congratulate the owner for having this restaurant, as the concept is really on point- well to be honest when this one was newly opened we were hesitant as the price is rocket high, recently they launched the eat all you can AED125 (outdoor seating) which to be honest ITS REALLY WORTH EVERY DIRHAM!
The cooking/grilling part It is a very unique and wonderful dining experience to cook the meat all by yourself, you will eat hot like how you want it!
The Meat Melts in your mouth! 🥹 meaning to say from all the Korean we tried (even the ones in the hotel) this might have been the best meat we ever tried - next day it does linger in our mind.
The Sides Its over flowing sides, try the deep fry chicken it is tender and crispy and really good!
Ambiance As shown in our video- especiallg nowadays the weather is getting cooler, the vibe here is different, and it can be too crowded so better book in advance ALWAYS.
We read some of the review, but we never read about LYNNE - She was one of our sever - there were 3 serving our table that time. Lynne- never gets tired, she is amazing and friendly, she is very proud to work here as she does love her job too much as well.
Room for improvement -
As it gets too busy, there were confusion as to which table ordered, what and how many, there were several times they were giving us salads, and sides that's not meant for us- it was worrying as it could end up as wastage😔 which we hope its not the situation.
Some of our orders were not given to us, but we just let it slide- we were full & satisfied and thats all okay.
Lastly the lady answering the phone for reservation, was not too friendly well maybe that day she is just on a very bad mood or so. Hoping will get the best reservation as we planned to celebrate my birthday there, promised to reserve two or a week...
