Looking for your next date night destination? How about an impressive business lunch? Sucre (which is neither French nor anything to do with sweets, though you may assume it is thanks to the name) needs to be on your list.
In Dubai’s buzzing financial (and gastronomic hub) of DIFC, Sucre is one of many top-class restaurants in the area. Having arrived in the city at the end of 2021, this super-cool restaurant hails from Argentina, with a branch also in London, and Sucre fits in well with the high-end imports in the area.
The restaurant itself is large, with high ceilings and a small terrace area – all sitting in the space that formerly housed nightspot Indie. Both the décor and vibe are cool, with plenty of Aztec prints, dark wood and mellow lighting.
The menu comes from chef Fernando Trocca and is broken into snacks, small plates, large plates and desserts, so dive into a selection and get ready to share.
But before you do any of that absolutely don’t miss the cheese bread. Utterly indulgent, rich, cheesy, piping hot – these little orbs are outstanding and up there with the best bread baskets in the city. Savour each bite as you peruse the menu.
Snacks include tapas-style dishes such as empanadas, padron peppers, stuffed olives et al, while small plates include salads, ceviches and more.
A roasted heirloom beet dish, drizzled with cumin yoghurt, orange, honey and thyme has a perfect blend of earthy flavours and is a brilliant vegetarian starter. Meanwhile the chilli prawn ceviche is punchy, zingy and delicious.
Moving onto the mains, Dover sole is skillfully filleted tableside and the meaty white fish is complemented by clams, meaty oyster mushrooms and a chilli-caper butter for a spicy-tart finish. There’s a tender steak accompanied by a flavour-packed chimchurri that’s a hit with carnivores too.
And absolutely don’t leave without dessert. A Basque cheesecake comes with a perfectly charred crust and rich, juicy roasted strawberries for a tasty take on the on-trend burnt dessert, while the dulce de leche fondant’s soft sponge gives way to a river of indulgent sauce.
The menu is well thought out with a mix of Latin American and European flavours and service is impeccable.
Don’t let the name fool you, Sucre isn’t anything to do with sugar, but that being said, the restaurant and experience is sweet enough. That’s your date night sorted then.

Upon arrival, we were seated at a very small table, which quickly became problematic as we had ordered three main courses. The dishes took up nearly the entire table, leaving no space for drinks, appetizers, or even room to comfortably enjoy the meal. This cramped setup made it difficult to enjoy our dining experience and created an uncomfortable atmosphere, as we had to constantly rearrange items to make space.
Another disappointment was that we were never informed that the seating area was a smoking section, nor were we told about the loud music. I was hoping for a quieter environment where I could enjoy a conversation with my friend, but the music was so loud it was difficult to hear each other. This wasn’t the vibe I was after and certainly impacted the overall dining experience.
The service was perhaps the most frustrating part of our visit. We were not told in advance that our food would take an hour to arrive. I had to follow up four separate times, each time being assured that it was coming soon. On the fourth follow-up, I was met by a waitress who responded in a terribly rude manner, asking what she could do about the wait with an aggressive tone and hand gestures. She did not once express sympathy or acknowledge how frustrating it was to wait for over an hour without any clear updates. If we had been informed earlier about the long wait time, we could have made an informed decision or perhaps opted for quicker options, but instead, I felt completely disregarded.
In summary, Sucre needs to improve on several fronts: better seating arrangements, transparent communication about wait times, and most importantly, improved customer service. While the food may have potential, the overall experience was overshadowed by these issues, making it difficult...
Read moreI went with 8 of my girls to their Brunch on Saturday and I was very disappointed with the quantity of food served for 8 girls!
We got 1 tiny Tuna tartar for 4 girls to share so 2 of us ended up not even trying it because there was not enough, then we got a plate of beef tacos we were 8 and we only got 6 tacos when we ask for more they just said ohhh no we can’t great service, we got 1 small plate of grill calamari for 4 girls very disappointed about the quantity of food serve for what we paid! And then the cherry on top of the cake was the meat platter that came to share for 4 girls each! From that meat platter we got to try 1 little tiny piece of beef like the size of my finger for each and that was the beef done, chicken there was only 3 small piece so 1 ended up not trying the chicken because there was not enough! I wanted to speak to the manager and complain because every time we ask for more food we never got any of it!
I forgot to mention that we never for served the wagyu carpaccio so it’s listed on the menu but it never arrives to our table! It’s just so disappointing maybe we just had bad luck that day and everything was just a mess with the service not sure what really happened there as we read so good reviews about this place that we were very excited to try it out.
Maybe they are used to people get very drunk with their alcohol packages and they ended up not eating, but for those that don’t drink and really want to eat not the place to go!
Then I saw a table next to us a couple and they got the same amount of food but for 2 to share that is fair, but the same plates for 4 it’s really cheap! I will share my experience on all platforms to make sure they don’t take a piss...
