We have been regular clients of Trader Vic’s for the past fifteen years and it has always been a family favourite. After last night’s experience I doubt we will ever visit again. Having arrived at 7.40 we were shown our table in non-smoking. The table was laid for four and there were three of us. Having been asked for a bottle of water we had to ask for it after ten minutes. It was then poured and we asked for ice and lemon. Nothing. We asked again five minutes later and were then presented with some sliced lemon. No ice. We asked again could we have some ice - it eventually came. The table we were on had a wobbly top and we asked if we could move to the next table which along with nearly all the other tables in the restaurant was empty. The clueless waitress went off for five minutes and then said it was OK. By now we were beginning to doubt our choice of venue for the evening as the waitress was just standing in the vicinity and not giving any service whatsoever. Our meals were ordered with a request for a Chateaubriand medium. The meals turned up and the Chateaubriand was rare with blood coming out. This meant it going back to the kitchen whilst I consumed my food on my own. The Chateaubriand came back well done! Not a way to enjoy a small family gathering that we have for many years thoroughly enjoyed. Water was poured stretching over the table and not around the side of each diner. The usual bread array at the start of the meal has been replaced with thin, hard crackers - not particularly pleasant. Our waitress seriously needed to be taken to one side and given proper training by the management. She didn’t know what the Chateaubriand was served with. On a smaller note the staff always looked resplendent in their tropical tops and dresses but now they are dressed in blue T-shirts and do not look the part. All in all a totally and thoroughly disappointing evening that we will not repeat again. We have always recommended Trader Vic’s to friends and taken them there also. Not being one to normally complain or ever write reviews I strongly feel that the management need to address this problem before other people vote...

Read moreWe have been to Trader Vic’s in Souk Madinyat at least twice a week over the last few years and have finally realised that it is not the place it used to be. Tonight we noticed how few people were there. Our thoughts on the downfall are as follows: The food is overpriced. We always have the 7x crispy prawns and 8x cheese balls which cost AED85 and AED69 respectively = AED154 and tonight we decided to have the Island Tidbits @ AED135 which included Crab Rangoon @ AED80. Total for all three being AED234. We thought this was a good deal however on receiving the order we discovered each was a third of the size of an individual portion so why didnt this cost less than AED80? The cheese balls were stone cold so we sent the food back to then realise they had refried everything and not remade everything on the platter. So now the prawns and crab were over cooked Staff never apologised and basically didn’t care When we eventually got the attention of what appeared to be the only staff member to get our bill it appeared with prices for drinks based on normal prices not Happy Hours prices. We paid reluctantly for 2 Mai Tais with more ice than liquid, 2 tiny glasses of wine, 4 overcooked prawns, 3 tiny overcooked crab parcels & 4 cheese balls just under AED300.
Trader Vic’s Manet please take this review seriously or we will never...
