Mara — Restaurant in Aberdeen City

Been meaning to go here for so long - can’t believe they are now 13 months old

Been twice recently - first time they had a private event on so couldn’t get a table but they phoned me back and said as I was by myself if I was happy at the bar I could come. Absolute win for me as at the bar you get to see the chefs cooking and plating which I love - also meant the chef served me many of the dishes I ate and was so attentive when it came to getting his staff to get me another glass of wine - highly recommend the bar seats

I ate so much the first night as wanted to try everything - the menu isn’t huge so I’m almost through it after 2 visits

The food - I literally cannot gush enough! Everything I have had has been 10/10 or more honestly so so so fine

It’s why I returned for visit 2 so quickly - again i sat at the bar

Visit 3 to complete the menu (almost) won’t be far away that’s for sure

I said to the staff today I though Amuse could not be beaten for quality, but this place is right up there plus the service is laid back, friendly same from the chefs which I got a chance to speak to sitting at the bar - just a great experience

It’s a little more expensive, but if you really like your food as I do it’s worth every single penny

To accompany the food they have tremendous wines, I even sampled a red today which I’m at the beginner stages with (it was very acceptable to me), I had all 4 white on the first visit and enjoyed them all

This is a wee gem in the Aberdeen food scene and I can see myself visiting so many times - if you like your food & wine and don’t mind paying a bit more for unbelievable quality and taste I cannot recommend Mara enough

The food here is truly excellent, and so is the service. The only issue we had was one large group near us who thought it was acceptable to shout and swear. I’m no stranger to bad language and drunken behaviour, but there’s a time and a place. It’s called having manners, respect and consideration for your fellow diners. In our case, the management decided not to do anything about it, even after this being brought to their attention multiple times. Unfortunately this problem isn’t unique to this establishment. It’s just a shame it’s tolerated, and an unknown level of revenue will never cross your path.

Ratings do and should reflect customer experience. Ours could have been better.

We were kindly given a free bottle of wine, which shouldn’t have been necessary; and should have been paid for by the other group.

I know dozens of folk who simply don’t go and eat out anymore because they can’t be bothered listening to the nonsense from a certain demographic....

We’ve been to Mara Wine Bar three times now and are consistently blown away by the quality of the food, it’s truly raising the bar in Aberdeen, and at incredible value. The Parmesan chips are a must, the arancini are always spot-on, and the specials never disappoint. They cater thoughtfully to all dietary needs, and the wine list is excellent, with favourites like Montepulciano and Barolo. The relaxed setting makes it perfect for any occasion, and booking is refreshingly easy just give the friendly team a call. We’ve even managed to get in last minute it’s lovely they try their best to cater for walk ins where possible. Ross and Carolina have created something really special here.
