As a Malaysian myself, I approved that this restaurant served authentic Pan-Asian cuisine, and a well-made Malaysian dishes to be specific. The foods are halal except for the menus that contain ducks. Came here with my wife in January, and we've been told that this restaurant just opened recently in November 2023. That explains why we didn't found this hidden gem earlier. We were greeted by a lady which I think is the manager. She spoke nicely and always gave cheerful smile all the time, giving off positive vibes from herself. A waiter named Pradeep was also friendly, he did his job really well in getting and serving our foods. We ordered Singapore Laksa with Grilled Chicken, The Legendary Rendang Beef (the best one!) and Malaysian Kajang Chicken Satay Sharing. All the foods were marvelous with appropriate portion. The prices were reasonable but I think it's quite expensive for the Satay x8 sticks where it costs around £16. Nonetheless, it's peanut gravy was perfectly made, and can compensate for the cost. The restaurant was quite big and spacious. The decoration was moderate which gives a cozy and leisure ambience inside it. They offer student discount except for Friday and Saturday, hence from the original total price of £53, we just paid £38. We managed to save a lot, and return home with a full tummy. Other information provided is that kids can eat for free every Sunday. Overall experience here was wholesome. I highly recommend this restaurant as they provide a top tier Pan-Asian foods at the heart of Bath city. Definitely will repeat coming here again. p/s: tell the staff that you're going to leave a great review for them, and you might get a free drink plus a free dessert voucher to be claimed on your next visit!

Terrible experience. Where do I begin? We sat outside the restaurant, and the table was dirty. We waited for about 15 minutes, and no one came to take our order. I decided to get up and call one of the staff members. After 5 minutes, a girl finally showed up, apologizing for the wait and saying they had two large groups to serve. We ordered two starters, which were just okay, although the lettuce that came with the spring rolls (shaped like little boats) had a puddle of water inside. The main dish, which was also vegetarian, was quite disappointing. There were about 3 cm of water at the bottom of the plate, in which the noodles were floating (and we hadn’t ordered ramen). On top of that, no forks were brought to us (only one was on the table), and we had to go inside to ask for napkins. We decided to send the dish back and were told we could choose another one from the menu instead. Even this second dish was barely edible — the vegetables were soggy, and the rice was overcooked. When it was brought to us, the server shoved it in the middle of the table between the dirty plates, which hadn’t been cleared yet. We ate about half of it just because we were hungry. When we asked for the bill, the staff member asked us to pass her the plates ourselves, as if she didn’t want to be bothered clearing the table. And finally, the bill arrived — we’ve attached a photo so you can draw your own conclusions.

I was ignored by the staff at the bar when I walked in. I think I was the first customer of the day, so I got to choose wherever I wanted to sit. As soon as sat down, a lovely waitress greeted me and asked the standard allergy questions. I was aware that the food I ordered shouldn't have any ingredients that could give allergic reactions. However, she made the effort of going back and forth to the kitchen to inform the chef about my food allergy. Very attentive and friendly she was. I ordered Papaya Salad which was prepared with fresh ingredients and really nice. The next menu was the Beef Rendang which was delicious. Although the beef rendang is not the original West Sumatran variety, it was still the Indonesian style. Beef was tender and sauce on top was very tasty. It was definitely of Indonesian flavour, not the ones that made to adjust to western taste buds. The restaurant itself is clean and nicely decorated even to the customer toilets downstairs. Would try the other dishes when I've got the chance to stop here.

Disappointing… ok food but awful service!

We were looking forward to eating here but the overall experience was not great. Despite booking the staff didn’t seem to know where to put us and we were sat at a slightly awkward table right next to where everyone waited to be seated/ all the delivery drivers came to pick food up. This didn’t bother us too much but meant there was no atmosphere.

We were given the menus but we’re not provided with any information or suggestions. About 15 mins after ordering our drinks, we were told that they had run out of Sauvignon blanc so a member of our party had to change their order. We then had to wait about 40 minutes before actually receiving our drinks, finally getting them when we had finished our starters and were halfway through our mains! No apology was made and, when we were still waiting for them, we had to ask for water twice just so we could have something to drink. When we finally got our drinks, the cocktail we had ordered was far too sweet and just tasted of syrup (so much so neither of us could drink it).

Most of the food was tasty however nothing special and felt like it had been sat around for a while as it was cold and the rice had all clumped together and become chewy. I think we might have enjoyed it more if the service etc had been better.

Nobody asked us if our food was okay or apologised for the delay. I think we heard about 3 different plates/ trays dropped over the course of the night too so I don’t know if the staff were just having a bad day! We then had to ask twice to remove the £12 service charge from the bill because, although normally happy to pay it, it really wasn’t worth...

Banana Tree consistently serves delicious food with good value for money and I've always had excellent and enthusiastic servers at their other branches. This time I found the server very uncommunicative and a bit rude. Slim lady with a high blonde pony tail with reading glasses. When I walked into the restaurant, I approached the sign that says 'wait here to be seated', and she looked directly at me with a blank expression and didn't say a word. I had to ask can I just sit anywhere, and she said NO, I'll show you where you can sit. (Not welcoming at all !?) When I was done eating I tried to catch her attention 5 times to ask for the bill and I feel like she looked straight past me. I thought I'll try again after using the loos, and came back to my table and literally shot my hand up in the air a few times to catch her attention, and she again had a blank look on her face. Note that she was standing around doing nothing everytime I did this. Finally I had to walk up to their counter and out loud ask for the bill whenever SHE was ready (this is the server's job, not the customers'). When she came to my table with the bill, I had some confusion with the amounts but once she clarified that for me, she just stood around with the card reader clutched close to herself and not saying a word. I didn't know what to do and awkwardly reached over and made the contactless payment. Poor customer service by this lady which spoiled my experience, but the servers that day who actually brought my drink and food were very lovely and positive and that's why I will still visit this branch but hope that the service will be...
