We booked for a table of 8 for Father’s Day. Upon arrival we were stood waiting to be shown our seats, then were left without any service. Had to go out to the bar to ask for food and drinks menus, as well as asking for service to take our orders after sitting there for half an hour . We were surrounded by a few different tables who all were experiencing table service, and due to the high number of us, we chose not to follow the QR code route as could see that table service was an option. After waiting half an hour to get service we finally placed our orders, 20 minutes later our drink orders were then lost and had to wait another 10 minutes to finally get our drinks in which the wrong drinks were bought several times. Upon the drinks arriving, one of our two shared starters came out and the second nearly 10 minutes later. Then when our mains finally started coming out nearly a 15 minute wait between the first and last plate , half the food was cold, we mostly ordered beef in which was all very chewy. i was the last the receive the meal after being asked if I even ordered a main as they had only another one to bring out even tho 8 mains were ordered in total. following this, after asking for cauliflower cheese when ordering and being told they had sold out, we opted for pigs in blankets instead, which were forgotten about and brought out later with a side of cauliflower flower cheese on the house due to the disrupted service, even tho we were told they were sold out? Incredibly disappointed with the service, especially after recommending my family to dine here and being met with staff ignoring our table and being stared at multiple times by servers once we complained about the lack of attentiveness to our table as well as being ‘ we will deal with it, pleas sit back down’ when going up to ask about the problem with the drinks when waiting 30 minutes. Would not recommend here, seems that other reviews have shared similar poor service even when the restaurant...

I had a very disappointing experience at Hall & Woodhouse last week. I had booked a table for six to celebrate my birthday with friends, but the visit fell far short of expectations.

Despite having a reservation, we had to wait to be seated and were initially shown to a five-person table, even though the reservation sign clearly stated six. After finally getting a waiter’s attention, we were moved to another table that had just been vacated but had not been cleaned properly—rubbish was left, and the surface had not been wiped down.

We were also given two different sets of menus, each with slightly different items, which made ordering confusing. When we ordered both food and drinks, our two soft drinks took 15 minutes to arrive and only came out with the food. Four waters we had requested were forgotten entirely, and when we reminded the waiter, only three were brought to the table. We had to ask yet again for the missing one.

It was very clear the restaurant was understaffed—the waiters appeared stressed and disorganised—and unfortunately, the food itself did not meet the standard expected, especially given the prices.

It was also my birthday and my friend tried to organise a cake to come out as a surprise. She went up and got told to wait so she went up again, luckily I didn’t notice her have to make an excuse to go up twice. When the cake did come out, we had to stop a waitress for her attention as no one had come prior to give us plates (we actually tried to get their attention several times but they would ignore and walk past). Eventually, we did get plates but then we were left without cutlery for a while and had to struggle to get their attention yet again for some. I wouldn’t mind a bit of a wait if they were busy, but we could see the waitresses talking at the side whilst we were sat waiting for their attention.

While the restaurant setting is attractive, the poor service and underwhelming food were a huge disappointment, particularly for a...

I was so excited to come here! However, from the start it was not great.

We walked in and saw the sign downstairs that stated that if you had a booking (which we did) that someone would be with us soon. We waited about 10 minutes and no one acknowledged us. So, I asked the bartender- who told me to go upstairs. Another sign that said to wait. A few minutes later, we were seated.

About 5-10 minutes went by- no menus other than drink menus. No one had come to our table. But a man on the staff repeatedly kept pointing in our direction from the other side of the room and approaches me and asks if we seated ourselves. Obviously not. He then asked us to move to a different table so there’s be room for another group and gives us a food menu.

By this point I had ordered a drink 15 minutes prior. We sit at our new table, and the waitress immediately comes and asks what we want to eat (although we’ve had no time to even look at the menu yet) and also tells me they don’t have the ingredients for my drink. So I order another.

Five minutes go by. Waitress returns and says they also don’t have ingredients for the second drink. But we ordered our food.

Five more minutes go by. Now we are told they don’t have the ingredients for our food either. Oh yes. And they don’t have the ingredients for my third attempt at a cocktail. So we try again with the food order. But at this point- no cocktails. Not worth the hassle.

Of course… they didn’t have my second attempt at food either so I tried again. We eventually got our food. It was okay, but not my favorite for sure. Very disappointing experience.

If it wasn’t for the waitress who understood the frustration from this- I’d give a 1 star rating. It’s a beautiful spot, but I will not be back. I’ve never left so dissatisfied at a restaurant in my life. Thumbs down from...

Well, this is a mixed review. I travelled to Hall & Woodhouse in Bath to meet some friends for a leaving do. I came in my power wheelchair to find there was a flight of steps up into the pub. No problem – there was a lift - but the lift was broken. So, after waiting for a while and then ringing a friend inside, the staff came to help and led me round to the goods entrance. I descended into the gloomy beer cellar on an unprotected goods lift, crossed the cellar, and then went up into the pub in another goods lift. I enjoyed the nettle beer and the bacon chop I ate and good conversation with friends. When it was time to go, the staff were quite busy so it took a little while to get someone to take me down in the lift again and back up onto street level. One of the staff mentioned to me that the lift has been broken for most of the last couple of years I wonder how the pub would have evacuated me in the event of a fire? It’s not good enough for the lift to be broken like this. The staff were friendly and helpful, but unfortunately the facilities did not match. If I hadn’t telephoned my friend inside, no one would’ve known I was there and I would have been waiting for a very long time. Maybe that’s why they don’t have me disabled people in the pub. Sort it out. You have a legal requirement to do so under the DDA. [edit: photo edited to remove staff member] [update: thank you for your reply. I have edited the photo as requested and hope to use the new lift next time I visit.]

I visited Hall & Woodhouse Bath on a Saturday evening for dinner and drinks with some family. The restaurant and bar is spread over several levels, with the ground floor mainly a bar, then a restaurant level on the first floor. They've also got a rooftop terrace, which would have been nice to enjoy a pre-dinner drink if it wasn't being a typical British summer and raining. The meal started off very strong, as I shared a Baked Somerset Camembert - which was very well flavored and had plenty of things to dip in it. I opted for the Nduja Chicken for my main course, which was very disappointing. The sauce with the rather small chicken breast was essentially a spicy oil - but it was completely over-powering and just made everything greasy. It cost nearly £20 too - so not cheap 'pub grub'. The drinks at Hall & Woodhouse were good, and I must say the Long Island Iced Teas were very well made and good value too. The service we had in the bar was quite slow and the waitress who served us looked like she wanted to go home. However, the service once we were sat in the restaurant was much better. The staff were friendly and attentive, and made sure we were well looked after. Overall, it was a mixed bag whilst visiting Hall & Woodhouse. Parts of it were good, parts of it were bad. It's definitely a place to visit for drinks - however I would potentially think twice before visiting again for food.

Got to Bath fairly late, liked the look of this place especially the roof terrace and was only a short walk from the hotel, booked a table online - the only option it gave me was 9:15pm so we thought great...they're still serving food! Got there and it was very quiet...staff seemed very surprised that we had a table booked, but sat us anyway. Our waitress Georgia was really welcoming and lovely, she could not have done more for us. However it was clear we were a late table and the kitchen was going to be pissed...and they were! We actually overheard the chef telling Georgia that we had to order fast because this was a joke! After having worked in hospitality for many years I could totally get it but was confused as how I was able to book a table at that time and the kitchen was still 'open' for the chef to react that way, in the restaurant, in front of paying guests. We told Georgia we would be happy to leave and go somewhere else as by this point the vibe was gone but she convinced us to stay...as I said she was absolutely great and handled the whole situation really well. Food came out quickly and we ate and left. I'd recommend closing online reservations if you don't want people booking at that time, and keep chef outbursts to the walk-in fridge. But again....Georgia was fantastic!
