AVOID! The service at Comptoir+Cuisine was some of the worst I’ve ever experienced. Our main complaints are:
the restaurant is severely understaffed and the main waiter serving us was incredibly rude. our food arrived in a ridiculous order - the cheese board which is suggested on their menu as a start to the meal was almost the last thing to arrive, after the tapas. the glasses of champagne we’d ordered to start the meal (again, as suggested on the menu) arrived after all of the food (an hour after we were first seated) - and I was brought the wrong drink twice before they finally got it right. I ordered something which I could see when it arrived contained hazelnuts, which I’m allergic to - but which hadn’t been listed as an ingredient on the menu. When I asked the waiter whether the dish contained nuts and informed him of my allergy the reply was incredibly aggressive, basically blaming me for not telling them in advance. In hindsight I should have done this too, but by the time we were ordering our food we had been waiting for so long that I simply forgot - and there were no nuts listed anywhere on the menu that I could see. I think that all menus which contain common allergens should highlight them, for the safety of all their customers. the service was incredibly chaotic. We were seated upstairs with three other tables and whenever dishes were brought up, the majority of the time the wait staff didn’t know who it was for - they’d just announce what the dish was and hoped that someone would claim it. despite all the chaos, not once did we receive anything even close to an apology, but instead were made to feel small - as though even being there was an annoyance for them.
Upon leaving I felt too uncomfortable even to ask the team to remove the service charge from the bill - but this was an incredibly expensive way to essentially be told off by a waiter repeatedly, wait over an hour for a single drink and then almost be subjected to a dangerous allergen which wasn’t listed on the menu.
Avoid at all costs. A huge shame, because the food that we could enjoy was incredible, but I’d never return again for my own safety...
Read moreWe were a large party of 10 last Saturday night and can quite honestly say we were all literally blown away by this stunning beautiful little restaurant. The inside of this restaurant has been designed and decorated so beautifully. You could be in the center of Paris. The little touches so thoughtful and elegant. There are cosy small areas along with areas for a large party like ours. No tables on top of each other so perfect for whatever the occasion. We ordered a huge variety of the small plates on the menu from the very knowledgeable, friendly and very competent Arthur. He was calm, unflustered and extremely polite; a huge asset to the restaurant team. We all wanted to take him home!! The food was delivered piping hot and carefully and very attractively plated. It was a gastronomical masterpiece; we all felt it was undoubtedly the best food we’d had in many many years. How they managed to get so much food and so many choices out to us without any delay or problems whatsoever is astonishing. Every single dish was outstanding. You couldn’t fault anything at all which is a massive accomplishment and achievement by the chef and her team. Anyone eating here will be spoilt for choice but the dish of the night and one not to be missed was the aubergine! Mouth-wateringly delicious and such an incredible taste sensation. I wish I lived in Bath because I would visit this little gem of a restaurant as often as I possibly could. Many congratulations to Chef and her team. Don’t change a thing what you’re doing is quite...
Read moreThis is basically a tapas restaurant (not a french concept at all), and they don’t offer a full size plate, making it very expensive for the quantity offered, you need to order 3 small plates at least.
The portions are extremely small, and I don’t understand why they just don’t add more, especially for vegetables which are so cheap to buy. You get a cauliflower for 0.50p and get served 2 little pieces, charging £5.00 for it.
Advice for owners:
When someone orders the beef (3 little slices), please ask in advance how they like it done and please offer a proper meat knife to cut it instead of a butter knife.
And increase the size of your portions for God’s sakes, they are tiny! Will never return and would not recommend to anyone, you have lots of other better options in Bath!
Service was good, but for a small bistro a 12.5% addition to the tab can be expensive.
Also the water glasses were dirty as someone else mentioned previously.
Please keep in mind they bring the plates one by one and not everything together, as one would expect to...
