The majority of the front desk staff were incredibly rude and made me and my mom feel unwelcome and uncomfortable throughout our 4 night, 5 day stay.
When we tried to check in, the front desk told us that our room was not available and that we would need to wait. They then put us into a dirty room. The surfaces were sticky and crumby with the previous guests' food and drink. The floor in the bathroom had not been mopped either, and there was a stain on the pillow.
After informing them about the condition of the room, another host put us in a nice room (same room type that I had paid for, but remodeled) with a good view that had been available all along. I can only gather that the initial woman who checked us in did not think us deserving of this room which had a much nicer view. This room was also quite dusty and in need of a vacuum and mopping. Whoever cleans, is clearly just replacing towels and bedding in the rooms and giving the occasional swipe of surfaces. Lack of ventilation contributed to a dank musty smell in the bathroom.
The original host who checked us in also told us that breakfast ended 30 minutes later than it actually did and had us comfirm what time we would be coming down, even though breakfast is buffet style as with other Hamptons. I can only think that she hoped we would miss it...
Every morning, we were greeted with stone faces, scowled at, or ignored. My mom was carded when trying to get breakfast.
The atmosphere that the front desk staff created ruined our stay in Bath. We didn't even want to come out of the room and pass through the lobby. After checking out, a different host flagged me down to confirm my identity as I was leaving. She wanted to make sure that I had paid with my own card and asked me to hand it to her (I had already been charged and can only assume given treatment during the week that she thought I was stealing).
Cultural competency and bias training would be an excellent start to remedy some of these issues.
If you are looking for a hotel with pristine rooms, you may be disappointed.
If you are a person of color expecting to be treated with dignity, look further.
Good points: Not every single staff member was terrible, just the majority of people at the front desk that we had the misfortune to interact with.
The hotel is beautiful. The lobby is absolutely gorgeous. The interiour designer needs some applause. The color scheme and furniture were bright and fun. It was also quite clean, even the bathrooms! (There could just be an issue with whoever is cleaning the fourth floor).
Having the hotel information on the TV is absolutely brilliant.
The hotel boasts a gym and business center (although, the printer was out of toner during the duration of our stay).
The free breakfast is nice (although it could do with some variety). Fruit and baked goods tasted fresh.
Also, the hotel is perfectly located close to everything you may need in bath, many shops, grocery stores, and restaurants within a 2-5 minute walk. The train/ bus station is less than a 10...
Read moreThis Hampton met all of my needs beautifully even though the price was a little higher than I liked. Location: From the train station, I walked under 10 minutes pulling my suitcase over the uneven sidewalks, but there are several buses that service this route. This hotel is centrally located amidst shops & cafes next to a small university with only a 3-min walk to the Roman Baths & the free walking tour.
Check-in/out: I was given a nice corner room even though I arrived before check-in. The young lady was friendly, welcoming, and professional, which started my stay on a terrific note. She offered me her favorite room, or a different room on a higher floor… very nice to be given the choice. I was given a late checkout, but my key quit working and I was unhappy to have to go back a get a new key even though I was rushed.
Room: Corner room was 344 with beautiful windows over the town. Ask for the higher floors. Curtains need to stay mostly closed or you are exposed to other windows down the streets. When the light was off, I slept with the curtains open, but there was an orange streetlight that shined in the room. I wish the curtain could have opened from the left side as well as the right so I could block the views I chose. Beds and towels were crisp and clean, and the bed was comfortable, although low to the ground. Shower had a rainfall attachment; water was hot immediately. There were plenty of surfaces to set my belongings on, although the room would be tight for 3 people. The bathroom door won’t give much privacy for 2+ people since it doesn’t lock and there is a gap underneath it. Tea and coffee supplies were wonderful with real mugs, not paper or plastic. Room was quiet as I couldn't hear any street noise or other guests.
Breakfast wasn’t a luxury meal, but was tasty and plentiful. No line at 6:45am. A buffet of scrambled eggs, pork sausage, cut fresh fruit, breads, pastries, 2 waffle makers, yogurt, meat & cheese slices, etc.
Housekeeping: When given a late check-out, housekeeping should be notified. They knocked on my door while I was in the shower… very awkward. I would definitely recommend staying here...
Read moreWe stopped for 2 nights and selected this hotel due to its price and location. Upon checking in, the staff were friendly, and although our official check-in was 4 pm, we got there at 12 pm. approx and only had to wait 20 mins till we could get in our room. The reception area was bright and welcoming with a modern twist. Our room was the king-size option, the view was on the outside on a side street, so nothing great, but I understand you can choose your room and view. The room was clean and tidy and overall a pleasant looking room with built-in safe and soft clean towels. 2 issues we found with the room, firstly was the TV, it worked well and was wall mounted but only snag was the program guide did not tell you what was either currently on or up next at the very least, so somewhat annoying. Secondly, the mattress, it was not the mistake comfortable even though it had a topper on. It felt quite worn, and when moving around, we found the springs were clunky but not enough to spoil the trip, but still not great.
Breakfast was actually quite nice, i hate it when staff state it's a complementary breakfast, when you know it's really allocated into the price. But, it was nice hot and a reasonable selection of nothing hot and cold. Only gripes was the amount of coffee mschine (2), there needed to be at least another one especially when it got more busy. The cups they gave were small with no option of a standard size mug. The seating area was nice enough, but the chairs, for some reason, were somewhat low compared to the height of the tables! For example, i sat down in the chair provided to eat and didn't realise it was quite as low as I thought soni dropped, and my lower back was not grateful really for that.
When we checked out, i raised the issue i noted above in regards to the room, and they apologised but left it at that. There was no offer to give some small amount of refund. The TV issue is just a small annoyance, but the mattress should have been spotted changed a while ago
Overall, because of the mattress, I would not stay there...
