weeeewoooo. What a place. Outstanding service, great ale selection, diverse condom machine and exceedingly reasonably priced for such a terrific institution. After entering into the spacious downstairs after a kindly nod from a gorgeous security guard , i chose ( and continue to choose) to ply my beer drinking trade in the charming upper hall. The high ceilings and stained glassed windows combine with tasteful decadent furnishings to give an epic drinking experience that remind me of my days drinking with the all black rugby team at the top of the eiffell tower. I had originally intended to catch just the end of a thrilling middlesborough vs bradford game on their gargantuan televisions but ended up knocking back 23 pints whilst merrymaking with the exceptional plethora of patrons the canon attracts. After a while, the evening people began arriving and only then did I realise my night was only just beginning. I began mixing with a few charming blue shirted students and ended up staying with them till close! The cultured music choices shapeshifted to the mood of the crowd providing the perfect backdrop to a fizzing broth of scintillating conversation and tale telling that is rarely seen in this soulless social media age. The wife was not best pleased at my tardiness that day, but boy oh boy did I have a good time. 10/10 in every category as far as I'm concerned and I will return , with friends, at the earliest opportunity. In sum , the canon has the perfect atmosphere for relaxed merry making in delightful surroundings whilst also having the facilities for both avid sports watchers and ,later in evening, chronic fun havers....

Visited with my partner for a couple of drinks and some food before a concert.
We completely understood that things might run a little slower with the city being busier than usualāthat was no problem at all, especially since it was only 3pm and we werenāt in a rush.
However, the attitude from one female staff member (Friday 13th June) was unacceptable. She made it very clear she wasnāt happy about working during a slightly busier time. Perhaps a role that doesnāt involve customer service would suit her better.
When I politely mentioned that I was next to be served, I was told bluntly, āIf you donāt like it, go elsewhere.ā
Later, when I went to pay and asked if I could pay by cash, she dismissed me completely and said, āNo, just leaveāIām not serving you.ā
No problemāI did exactly that. I asked for a refund for the food and drinks weād ordered, I assume the four drinks I had already paid for, along with the Ā£35 worth of food, were simply wasted and thrown away. I guess the management is happy to lose around Ā£65 without concern.
On a positive note: the young lad working alongside her was excellentāpolite, professional, and reassuring to customers, even under pressure. Credit...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent for bottomless brunch, want to start out by saying how incredible Joe was. He worked his absolute socks off in an incredibly busy environment, a lot of the time working on his own or with other staff who just didnāt seem to understand that it was extremely busy and that people have paid for a service, for a bottomless brunch attentiveness and speed is key. Joe is an absolute credit to this place and he is the only reason this is a remotely positive review. We were on the verge of walking out and asking for a refund but could see he was trying to juggle so much and he made the experience worth staying for. Itās really not okay to offer bottomless brunches and then not have the staff to actually deal with the people. My advice would be to not offer them on concert days or have much more staff on with more urgency because yesterday was embarrassing for management of this pub. Please bear in mind Ā£34 each is a lot of money and there were quite a lot of bottomless brunches running at the same time. People deserve to get what...
