The Halfpenny — Restaurant in Bath

Had brunch here the other weekend and it was really underwhelming. The service was welcoming, however that was the best part. We had the veggie brunches, they felt super processed and meh. The place felt dirty/unclean, the window seal next to us covered in cobwebs and dead insects, tables not cleaned etc. Went downstairs to the single toilet, waited for ages for a staff member to come out and for me to see there was no soap left, the same staff member then touching our glasses at the top. Having worked in hospitality surely just touch the glasses at the bottom as it's just a bit gross. Food took ages but I expect that was to do with the 'just waiting for the veggie sausages to defrost' shouted comment while I was waiting for the toilet. We love visiting The Halfpenny!

On our most recent visit there was a bit of a mix up and we were waiting for quite a while for our food. This was OK and we could tell the staff were very busy that day.

However, we were surprised when our bill was fully covered and we were told we did not have to pay anything! This level of generosity shows the kind of people you have working and managing The Halfpenny - we are very grateful.

It’s also worth saying that every single time we have visited, the food and coffee has been excellent. The staff are friendly, welcoming and kind. The atmosphere is laid back and relaxed.

We are loyal customers that will most definitely be visiting again and again.

We wanted to give this new local place a try for lunch, but sadly we were underwhelmed. The frittata didn’t seem freshly made. The potatoes in the potato salad were undercooked. The side salads didn’t seem very fresh. The panini was just average, nothing special. Same for the coffee. Service was courteous and attentive, which we appreciated, and the atmosphere is nice.
