Went in the week between Christmas and New Year on our trip to Belfast. The outside looks cool but that’s about it. The restaurant is upstairs and once we entered the dining room, the service staff were rude, told us to wait for a table, as we had 5, when we asked if we could order drinks while waiting, we are rudely told no, when seated it took a while to order drinks and food. General vibe was inattentive. The food selection was okay, the corn ribs were good, probably the best thing with a good flavor. We ordered the large bread starter and it had basic white slider buns on it to dip into oil and a whipped butter style sauce. When we asked what the sauce was the wait staff simply replied, “I don’t know”. The fish and chips seem to be a good size but are tasteless and either overcooked or the oil needed changing. The chicken burger was okay, but lacked any really flavor. The fact that they charge £1 to switch your potato side( fries, chunky chips, mash etc) is crazy and meant we had to get creative with who wanted what and what was their assigned side on the menu and then when the food arrived we did swaps to avoid potentially a £5 addition for no reason. When we were finished, again the servers took ages to clear the plates and for the price I was disappointed. The restrooms weren’t clean, missing soap and paper. Overall a bit disappointing as this was my pick for lunch for our trip. To note- they responded to my review. Asked me to email them, I did and then they never emailed back.

Called in for a drink on one of our walkabouts. We were enjoying a chat as it was quiet when a man and his son of about 13-14yrs old came in. A staff member stopped the father, seeming to challenge him in some way. The father and son left and returned about a minute later with a female I took to be the mother. It was obviously a foreign family on holiday. The father and son went to sit down and a staff member approached the father and told him that they had to leave as the establishment doesn't allow training bottoms. We found this quite an odd thing to do. The young lad wasn't very untidy looking and his bottoms were the cotton stretch type, not even like the bottom of a tracksuit. The family left, in shock at having been evicted. We left as soon as we finished our drink. I know that some places don't like football tops and things, but this really was a bit over the top on a weekday afternoon.

Historic pub with tasty food. Irish chowder is bountiful, loaded with chunks of salmon an white fish, surprisingly large for small portion. The soup is much lighter than the American version. Guinness bbq chicken wings are very tasty, mildly sweet chili flavored. (More than half dozen, no drumsticks :) Medium sirloin is a little over cooked. No longer juicy but still tender. Pie of the day is carvery pie— it’s Monday today and it’s carvery Sunday yesterday 🤔 anyways, the pie is super tasty, the puff crust is crispy and rosemary seasoned. Tender and flavorful pieces of beef, Turkey and pork cooked with onion. The chips aren’t crispy, not a huge problem personally. Pretty quiet upstairs on a Monday evening, but food is great. Service is friendly and prompt, though the table isn’t quite clean or sanitized. It’s an upstairs lounge but still part of a pub.

My friends and I were on a Paddywagon day trip four of us in total, 2 of them in their 70s one in her 60s who has dementia and myself 55 years old. We stopped at this place for something to eat and firstly we were told we weren't allowed to pay for our food separately on our debt cards that it needed to be paid for on one card even though we asked could we do this before we ordered our food So we asked the waiteress if there was an ATM nearby for us to get some money out and she pointed one out to us, we went ahead and ordered our food and 3 of us went to get the cash out leaving one of our party there to wait for our food to come as she had cash with her and didn't need to get any out When we came back the waiteress brought our bill out and told us we had to pay the bill before our food came out, I honestly don't know why we were expected to pay it there and then and I got the impression that she probably thought we'd leave without paying our bill. As I said we are middle aged people three of our party are old age pensioners hardly going to make a dash for it for the price of a 13 pound dinner and to be honest we felt totally disappointed with the service and felt like criminals I would definitely not recommend this place to eat although the food was nice they were...

Paid a visit to the Fountain lane on Thursday the 25th of August ,as it was an extremely hot day was happy to get a table outside to meet up with friends . While waiting for our company to arrive my husband got me a a glass of wine ,as the sun was shining brightly I never noticed at first but then saw lipstick marks on the glass my husband brought the glass back to the bar and asked for a clean glass and poured the wine from the dirty glass into the clean one , really would have expected the server to give a fresh glass of wine to be honest but no . Our friends arrived and my friend asked for a glass of wine and was told the bar had NO WINE really no white wine at all I understand that this bar is owned by the Clover group . Who own many other bars in Belfast and are expanding their other bars so I hope they run these other ones more efficiently than the Fountain Lane . I know a lot of bars are looking for staff but really the staff they have should be bettered trained in customer service and you would think if these bars are owned by the same group they could provide stock when...
