Birmingham’s Most Exclusive Cocktail Bar – And It’s Worth the Hype!

The English breakfast was unremarkable. It took 25 mins to arrive (even if no-one else ordered food) and it was unevenly warm, since I saw them putting it in the microwave before serving it, which made the scrambled eggs dry but the bacon was still lukewarm. A misleading sign showed the breakfast price with a list of components, including "orange juice" and "tea or coffee", but it turns out it's only one drink so frustratingly I had to pay for the juice separately. The staff was also not particularly attentive and the space inside felt a bit cramped. I think the place is more suited for drinks sitting at one of the outdoor tables near the canal, so probably better to avoid it for food.

Absolute gem of a place. I had kind of been here before on a Friday night, but because it's so small, I stood outside that time and had my beer handed to me out there. This time, on a quiet Sunday afternoon, I got to go in and experience the lovely, cosy interior. Service was superb. My wife had a Cappuccino, I had a beer, we chilled out on armchairs by the fire. It's a shame we only stayed for one drink, I could've easily spent the entire afternoon in here if it wasn't for other plans.

I went to the Canal Side Cafe' for lunch and a drink with my girlfriend a few weeks ago, but that was the first and last time. They had no Menues but just a board on the wall and no prices, hald of the dishes on the list were not available, we placed the order and we had to wait 1 hour for my dish to be served and 1 hour 20 min. for my girlfriend, they also got the order wrong so that means another 10 min. The girl at the bar was very rude and abrupt when i kindly asked how long for the food to be served. The rude lady that runs the place tries to get involved in everything (Bar, Kitchen and Restaurant floor but without the polite mannerism when speaking to customers), after 1 hour and half and a complaint she came towards our table, therefore i have asked her the reason of the long long delay, which apparntly was due to a broken oven, therefore when i told her that i have ordered boiled rice and not baked rice she looked short of a real answer to my question. When the girl from the Bar served our second dish late, I have started to complain but she just walked off with a don't care attitude. I would not suggest this place at all, not even to the ducks...

What a disappointment. My partner and I have been coming to this lovely bar for a while, and recently it has really fallen short of expectations. £7.00 for a pint of Punk IPA and £6.90 for a pint of Guinness is nothing short of criminal, but the final straw was yesterday, trying to enjoy our evening we saw the bar manager/owner lady scream and be horrible to their own staff.

We would understand the price for impeccable service and a lovely atmosphere, but you are paying top prices for an owner/management that screams and scolds their employees - especially in front of customers (for something minor as well...).

Shame. Do not reward this behaviour by...
