Greggs — Restaurant in Birmingham

Went in and ordered a vegan sausage roll. I was told by a female staff member they didn't have any but they would be "done in a few minutes" and she made me pay. I stood inside waiting for a few minutes and then a male staff member said I had to wait outside and that he would bring the sausage roll out to me when I was ready. I stood outside in the rain waiting for about 20 minutes when I looked inside and noticed they were taking the sausage rolls out of the oven. I then waited a few more minutes for the male staff member to take the sausage roll out to me. He didn't. So I had to join the long queue and wait an extra 5 or so minutes queuing just so I could go to the front and say I had been waiting for absolutely ages to get my sausage roll. The male staff member said he had just "forgotten."

This is just a really bad way to treat your customers. Making me pay before the sausage rolls were even ready and then lying about how long it would take to make (a "few minutes" made me think I'd be waiting for 5 minutes, not over twenty), plus forgetting to even give me my food. A very typical, affordable Greggs location, situated in a very convenient place, with plenty of parking - perfect to get a bite here after shopping at Sainsbury's. The staff are always friendly, and the shelves are generally well stocked, and the store well maintained. As always, the food at Greggs is a staple and is delicious, especially for its price. However, my main gripe with all Greggs chains is that if you're visiting at certain times (eg. in the evening) you are almost guaranteed cold pastries. Sure, you can opt for the hot food options, but this is something that detracts from an otherwise brilliant range...

Food is great however the speed of service is abysmal. There was only 3 people in front of me in the queue and I was waiting for what felt like an eternity. The service was so slow I witnessed the steak bakes in the window go from smouldering hot; to cold and finally degrade and disintegrate back into there natural constituents. It is also frustrating to watch the delivery drivers skip the queue and proceed to garner all of the delicacies on display. Delicious goods which should otherwise be withheld for queuing customers.

All in all I wouldn’t recommend unless your lunch break is over 4hrs.
