Very poor experience here. First time I have visited in about 8 years and was saddened by some of the changes.
The old pub used to be cosy and warm feeling. I recommended visiting to my partner as I used to love the venue so much.
When we entered it was steady, about half the tables taken. We chose our drinks (from a fairly good selection) - we went for a Blue Moon and a Brewdog pale ale. The horrific part was being served into a plastic disposable pint glass?? If I'm paying nearly £10 for 2 nice pints, I would at least expect a glass for my drink. There was a select group of people at the end of the bar who were privileged enough to have glasses but myself and my partner were stuck with an underwhelming drink. Understandable at clubs but we're nearing 30 years old looking to dine out at 6pm on a Wednesday and not trusted with glassware?
We took our drinks outside in the hope of escaping the really loud pop music playing in the bar. To be honest, we sunk these pretty quickly and went elsewhere instead.
It was a shame as our plan was to have a few drinks and order some food (but the concept of potentially eating off a paper plate wasn't for me).
Provably a great pub if you're a student but otherwise I'd avoid completely. We won't be visiting again, such a shame it isn't the place...
Read moreFor a pub, they’ve kept the price for food and drinks very student friendly . Vibe and experience to watch sports also very solid. Nothing much wrong with quality on offer but management of the place gets pretty haphazard at times. For example we got a bar table twice despite indicating when we booked and also calling them to ensure we get a large table as we have a few of us all hoping to eat and drink . Sure enough, I did get to speak to the manager who advised it’s better to call the branch directly . But still organisation could be much better. ———————
Edit : developments after a month
OMG can the service truly get any worse . I have attached pictures. The poor service I encountered was repeated on two future incidents and despite sending emails to feedback, was rudely ignored despite apparently promising to reply in a few hours.
Fortunately , they sent an automated feedback form which I duly filled in. They sent a general reply ending with “ as for service , please highlight where we failed “ but yet blocked me from replying to their emails. What kind of business does this ?
This is the last straw and I don’t think I ever want to come back. 4 consecutive bad experiences compounded by unprofessionalism in blocking a customer whom you requested for...
Read moreBouncers rude for no reason.
Big guy with a beard especially.
Bar asked for more information:
Came here on Friday night for a quiet drink with two friends.
Big bouncer very aggressive/stand-offish from the outset. Asked my friend for his age and ID. He says he's 33, and points to the ID date.
"I know how to read an ID thanks very much".
No problem getting ID'd, but why be so rude about it?
After we had finished our drink in the beer garden, we go to leave. He berates my friend for wearing his beanie hat while walking from the beer garden to the exit. Again, I guess I understand a no hat policy, but he's just walking through? Bouncer was ironically wearing the same style hat.
Just all around unpleasant. Demeanour gave off the impression he was looking for trouble.
Also - we all got extensively searched. Honestly had lighter touch experiences going through an airport. We only...
