Exceptional Dining Experience: An independent Gem!
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Ju Ju's Cafe, Birmingham, for a Sunday lunch with my partner and 1 year old daughter, and I must say it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. This hidden gem exceeded all our expectations, leaving us with nothing but praise for the food, ambiance, and most importantly, the exceptional service provided by the owner, JuJu.
From the moment we stepped foot into the restaurant, we were greeted with a warm welcome and inviting atmosphere. The tasteful decor and cozy seating arrangements added to the charm, creating the perfect setting for a delightful meal. The attention to detail like the quirky note on the door asking to keep it closed, to ensure it remains cozy, added to creating a truly memorable ambiance.
The star of our experience, however, was the incredible food. The dishes we ordered were an explosion of flavours that tantalised our taste buds; I had the Beef Brisket and my partner had the Vegetarian Wellington, with a side of cauliflower cheese to share. The careful selection of ingredients and the expert culinary skills were evident in each perfectly cooked dish. Every bite was a testament to the chef's expertise and dedication to delivering an unforgettable dining experience.
What truly set this restaurant apart was the personal touch provided by JuJu, the owner. Her warm welcome and genuine care for her guests made us feel like we were part of a big family gathering. She went above and beyond to ensure our satisfaction, engaging with our daughter and making her feel special throughout our time there. JuJu's attentiveness and willingness to accommodate our needs made us feel valued and appreciated as customers.
The level of service we experienced at Ju Ju's Cafe, is a rarity these days, and it truly made our visit memorable. JuJu's passion for her craft and her dedication to providing a top-notch dining experience shone through in every interaction. Her genuine enthusiasm and commitment to excellence were evident in the way she interacted with every guest, ensuring their utmost satisfaction, which will no doubt be a huge part of the reason she has been operating for the last 16 years, something almost unheard of for an independent restaurant.
If you are seeking a comfortable dining experience that combines good, hearty, tasty cuisine, a delightful ambiance, and impeccable service, look no further than JuJu's Cafe, Birmingham. From the moment you step through the doors, you will be greeted with warmth and hospitality that will set the mood just right, for your visit. Our experience here was nothing short of perfect for a Sunday afternoon lunch, and we cannot wait to...
Read moreI am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with my recent visit to your restaurant on Sunday. Unfortunately, my girlfriend and I had an extremely disappointing experience that will ensure we never return.
Given your location close to our home, we decided to try Juju Cafe, but this proved to be a significant mistake. After waiting 10 minutes without any service, I had to approach a waiter myself to place an order. The waiter informed me that service was slow due to being short-staffed, despite there being only 5 or 6 other occupied tables at the time. Eventually, we were able to place our order, with the waitress indicating a 30-minute wait, which is acceptable during busy times, though it was notably quiet.
My girlfriend, who is diabetic, injected her insulin after 20 minutes, expecting our food to arrive soon. However, we ended up waiting over 50 minutes. During this time, her blood sugar dropped, and we struggled to communicate our urgent need for juice to the staff, highlighting a serious lack of health and safety training.
When the food finally arrived nearly an hour later, it was not worth the wait. The dishes were shockingly poor in quality and value. One piece of cauliflower with cheese for £5.50, prawn on toast with only three small prawns for £9, and vegetables that appeared to be days old were simply unacceptable. The roast dinner served in a soup plate for nearly £20 was laughable, and the £3.50 charge for a small pot of gravy was outrageous. The total bill came to £68.50 for what was one of the worst dining experiences we have ever had.
To add insult to injury, a service charge was automatically added, despite the fact that I had to actively seek service for ordering, juice, and paying the bill. The service provided was minimal and far from timely.
Overall, Juju Cafe seems more focused on maximizing income than providing a worthwhile dining experience. The food quality, presentation, and pricing were highly disappointing. I hope you address these issues to prevent other customers from having similar...
Read moreI’ve thought about leaving this review for some time before posting - running an independent food business right now must be very difficult however my experience at Ju Ju’s was far from most documented on Google.
Upon entry the greeting was really warm and authentic which was great and one of the benefits of an owner run business.
The other most obvious sensory experiences on arrival are the decor and the smell. The decor is individual and I can take or leave that. The smell however is unhygienic and stomach turning.
A handful of other tables were occupied so the atmosphere was flat. We proceeded with ordering food against my better judgement, we’d made a reservation and I wanted to believe in the reviews I’d read.
Starters were okay - garlic flatbread and Nacho’s although the latter was overwhelmed by some kind of white sauce, possibly yogurt/cream/mayo that needed scraping off to make it more palatable.
Mains were the much celebrated Sunday roast - this took a disconcerting amount of time to arrive further posing questions about just how popular this destination is.
Just as mains were served the owners dog appeared at our table and remained there as we ate, not ideal but helped to explain some of the smell.
The Roast Pork itself was perfectly edible, Yorkshire pudding big but tired looking, gravy non descript, veg poor; red and green cabbage tough and dull, carrots looking very old and badly peeled. We also added Cauliflower Cheese and Pigs in Blankets, the CC in particular dreadful, what little sauce there was seemed to have separated and there was some token cheese melted on top.
We aren’t from Birmingham and were there for a day out - this experience really took the shine off the day and made me feel like I’d been grifted by a business that’s trying to smooth over its inadequacies with the personality of the owner and very positive reviews. I did share my views with the owner after paying, I was assured this would be relayed to the team and my points followed up.
Give it a go and see, I won’t be...
