Shaorma Hub Birmingham — Restaurant in Birmingham

I visited on Sunday 4 October 2021 at approximately 2pm. I was informed by the older gentleman owner and the shop server that they would be open in 10-15 minutes. No issue.

I came back 15 minutes later eventhough it was raining quite badly by this point because I was keen to try it. Shortly after I came back the second time another customer arrived. The server greeted him like an old friend. I got talking to the other customer who confirmed he was new to the city and kept coming back here because it was so good!

The server then opened the shutter, and attempted to serve the customer who came after me first. I found that a bit of an affront as the server obviously knew I was first and it was raining quite heavily.

Thankfully, the customer who came after me told the server no, don’t take my order- he (me) was first. The server then took my order. I asked for lamb, he said the lamb has run out sorry. I said ok can I have chicken etc. He took my order but then explained that they don’t have chips as the oil is being changed, but he will put extra chicken into the shawarma and charge me the same price. It was raining too heavily for me to bother with a debate especially as his English wasn’t that good.

I reluctantly agreed which he seemed pleased about and he wrapped up the shawarma, not before coughing very near to my shawarma as he was wrapping it like it was nothing. Naturally that made me feel very uneasy.

I did try the shawarma when I got home and it was nice. Hence the three stars. In two minds about going back there again for the full experience (chips and Lamb like I wanted) based on the below-par...

A small place, a bit hard to find and takeaway only. The prices were not very competitive from my point of view. Ordered a mixed meat platter, which cost more than 10 pounds. Surprisingly, the platter came in a square box! It looked like a pizza box but actually much softer, not easy to eat while holding the box by hands.

The foods were okay, but I would call it Doner Hub instead of Shaorma Hub. Definitely not Shawarma, more like Doner Kebab. For me, lamb meat could get 4 stars while chicken 3 stars. Large portion but lukewarm apart from the rice, better to finish everything quickly. The foods could be nasty after turning cold.

The staff was a bit cold but patient. The service speed was average. Thanks to the staff, I got both fries and rice. The fries were tasty but the rice had a weird taste. Looked like yellow Middle Eastern rice, but tasted very different and I would not call it delicious. Salads were okay, coming with a variety of sauces and powders.

Absolutely disgusting service, Having ordered previously on Uber eats and my food came freezing cold which I reported to Uber, Decided to give it another go since the food probably would’ve been nice if warm, and called up the store at 16:16 Sunday 23rd October, just to let him know if possible to make the food fresh so it’s warm to avoid the last times mistake… The guy on the phone started shouting really aggressively down the phone saying it’s not his problem if drivers are late and he has 6 orders on so he does not care and then proceeded to cut me off, I rang back to ask why he cut me off without providing a solution and he proceeded to continue shouting that he is too busy to care and I asked for the order to be cancelled which he refused so I bought up to Uber support. Would never recommend a place with as bad service as this as a simple kind response would’ve been sufficient instead of getting aggressive over the phone.
