It's very rare these days that all your senses are overwhelmed at an eatery. After downing a few pints, at the Figure of Eight in nearby Broad Street, we cheekily asked our waiter where the best food place was. Without hesitation he replied, Turtle Bay. Following his direction, we made an inebriated beeline towards it - thankfully, a stone's through away. Tucked away in an off street square, from the outside this Turtle Bay didn't seem like much to write home about. But no sooner had we set foot across the threshold, were we transported to faraway Bohemian shores. Live tunes, neon signs, beautiful Afro-Carribean art, an open kitchen area from which heady smells were emitting, smiling and amenable staff, and most importantly, a killer vibe. We closed the joint! With half-price cocktails on the way, our party of six set about ordering our meals. And can I say, that the curried goat and garlic prawns, quite simply, transported me back to my childhood. The curried goat - slow cooked, fall off the bone tender, perfectly aromatic, and spicy. The prawns - without a doubt, the best prepared prawns I have had in the UK. Congratulations chef. The only let down was the mac 'n cheese - store bought, instant, off the shelf, give it a miss. My friends were too afraid to try anything other than burgers. Don't be. Try something new if you find yourself here, drunk or sober. You'll not be disappointed. The prices aren't bad too. Happy hour's a bonus. The service is great. 5/5 for Turtle Bay. I will be back soon.

We arrived at the restaurant around 4:30 PM, and inside, only 2-3 tables were occupied, meaning the place was not busy. At the entrance, we were greeted by a young lady who asked whether we were there to eat or just have a drink. We politely replied that we wanted both, and she guided us to a table. To our surprise, we were seated at the last table in the corner, right next to the restrooms, despite having clearly stated that we intended to dine. The same person took our order. My 6-year-old son ordered a chicken burger, and I carefully read the menu to ensure there was no mention of it being spicy. A different staff member brought our food. After taking his first bite, my son started crying because the burger was spicy. We requested a replacement, which the restaurant provided. However, no one apologized for the mistake, and there was no indication in the menu that the burger might be spicy. At the end of the meal, when we asked for the bill, yet another staff member came to process the payment. Conclusion: 1. Very poor customer service, as we were passed from one staff member to another, making us feel uncomfortable. 2. The food was disappointing, cooking oil very old and you could see that the brest chicken was almost black crusted becouse of very old cooking oil .In the children's menu does not specify whether items are spicy or not. 3. Seating arrangement was unacceptable, as we were placed next to the toilets despite clearly stating that we were there to eat.

This is my third branch of Turtle Bay. The restaurant has a rustic feel to its aesthetics. Our booking was for 6:30pm and by this time, the restaurant was already full. I ordered a mocktail but when it arrived I wasn't pleased because the cup wasn't full. Its just juice for goodness sake. I ordered jerk pit wings. It tasted ok. I've had better. I liked it because the meat fell off the bones. I wasn't happy with my goat curry. Didn't have enough sauce with the curry and there want enough goat meta pieces in there. What irked me the most was the duplicity with the pricing. My main and starter, from the standard menu came to £21.70 but when I tried to make payment, I was being quoted £26 and I wondered why. The waiter said its cause myself and colleagues had eaten from the Christmas menu. It sounded ridiculous. So just cause you slapped 'Christmas' in front of the menu, the price suddenly jumps up. There was literally no difference between the items on the standard or Christmas menu.

Bottomless Brunch isn't really bottomless, after our 3rd drinks we tried to order another and our waitress flat out said, I am not putting them through yet, you are ordering too fast, so our glasses were left empty. She knew what drink we wanted at that point and said she'd put it through in 5 mins, cut to her coming to the table 15mins later saying "OK guys what's your next drink" and we were sat there thinking she had already put it through. I've been before and felt like the servers hold your drinks up for brunch, so you only get a maximum of 6 drinks in the 2 hours but to actually be told and held up for so long. Why are we calling it bottomless, just say there's 6 drink cap! Also I know it's easier ordering as a table the one drink for all, but the reality is in a big group people are left unhappy. Plus with the fact the waitress wasn't putting our drinks order through people within the group didn't get to try any drinks they wanted. The waitress created an atmosphere from this point with us and made a mistake with the food order, then was abrupt to the person who's order got messed up. It again wasn't necessary and created a weird atmosphere, it's customer service, it was a Saturday, it was probably busy before we arrived so we understand mistakes get made, but how she handled it was terrible and confrontational. She came over without an itemised bill for payment and just held the machine rattling off the amount. The amount got paid, but I asked for an itemised bill, and there was a £30 service charge of 10% added, but reality is we weren't happy with the service! So we wouldn't have paid it, and we would have happily explained to a manager why. Thought it was extremely sneaky to not bring the bill when taking payment and I knew something was up. If you want bottomless brunch you won't get it here, any time I've been I get 6 drinks and the waiters/waitresses hold your orders up, so that 6 is the maximum. The brunch menu is uninspiring anyway we all go for the drinks but I won't be bothering again. I think 2-4-1 days was...

Personally I wouldn't recommend this turtle bay to anyone. Booked for bottomless brunch and ordered first drinks pretty quickly but the waitress then took 15-20 minutes after the drink and arrived to take the food order. When ordering we were told the food we originally wanted was not available so once we had re-decided asked if it was possibly to have the main without mash and add fries instead and was told it was not possible but had we have been told upon being seated we could've made a different choice. The manager then came to take the order for us and the chicken we had originally wanted was now available and everything seemed fine. The service was very slow and had only had 3 drinks each by the time we finished food so had asked for another drink but because one of our party had left not feeling very well we couldn't have one as his drinks were still on the table. The customer service here from the waitress and the manager I found to be extremely rude as when asking why we had been given the bill before we were offered more drinks I was told to 'sit down and stop arguing with me'. At this point I had had 4 drinks in two hours and was not remotely drunk nor was I being rude or argumentative, I had not raised my voice or spoken to the manager rudely at any point of our conversation and found his response extremely disrespectful. Over all this put a dampener on what was meant to be a celebratory evening and after spending £250 you would expect a little more. Would definitely...
