Visited as part of the Birmingham Canals Pubs tour. This was the 1st stop on the list at 12pm and have to say, first local pub I've been to where there's been a queue waiting to get in on opening! Reminds me of the pubs I grew up around in Oldbury that were set deep in the terraced housing estates and populated by flatcap wearing local industry workers. Salt of the Earth folk. You just need to see the other photos posted on reviews for this pub to start to really appreciate the history and effort injected into the appearance and décor of this public house. The main bar area has lots of classic porcelain cups, jars and thimble collections near the rafters and you could spend ages just taking in the photos on the wall. Opted for a fruity ale and wow... Amazing. Probably one of my top 5 all time local pub visits as far as nostalgia and tasty beer is concerned. Would definitely...

This is a brilliant pub. It’s a classic, old-style pub that has a community of regulars and exemplifies how pubs used to be! The bar tender was welcoming, friendly, sociable, attentive, and knowledgeable about the drinks. The resident cat (of 16 years!) was a welcome edition. Never before have I been to a pub with a cat, and it brought me joy! For food I had the jacket potato with cheese and beans. This I thought was a reasonable price on balance of the quality and the atmosphere, however I would prefer to see more vegetarian mains if possible. The jacket itself, however, did not disappoint - it was thinly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and the portion size was generous, including the side salad. The toilets were clean and clientele friendly. I would definitely recommend a visit and hope to re-visit myself when back...

I was walking on the way to the children's hospital with my toddler, when she suddenly had the urge to use the toilet, I popped in on the off chance they'd let her, and was pleasantly surprised with the welcome we got (and permission to use the loo) the pub was very clean and tidy and had a sort of nostalgic feel to it as you walk in and have a look around, the atmosphere was warm and friendly and the food smelt amazing. I had a little glance at a plate of food that was being taken to someobedy and that also looked and smelt amazing. I will definately visit again, maybe without toddlers next time so I can try some of the...

Very good pub about fifteen minutes walk from Birmingham New Street Station. Five cask beers on handpump when I visited including a mild. A few benches outside at the front and a small garden to the rear. This backstreet local is one of the oldest pubs in Birmingham. It has two distinct drinking areas surrounding a U-shaped bar with a smaller back room for more privacy. A collection of 300 jugs adorns the ceiling, along with a number of old pictures and memorabilia. Eleven en-suite letting bedrooms are available.
