Was visiting Bath to see old friends whom we had both lived in Clifton during the 70,s And Made A Return Visit Yesterday Friday , Ordered A Take away for 3 Of Us 3 Mains and Side Dishes & Nans , Arrived Home in Anticipation Of A Eagerly Awaited Supper To Be The Most Disappointed I Think I Have Ever Been More So For My Embarrassed Hosts Whom Had Purchased The Meal , It Was Lacking Any Taste, Spice Or Hint Of An Indian Meal , Only Colour !!! I Could Have Been Eating An Irish Stew , Did The Chef have Covid ? No Smell & Definitely NO TASTE, So A Catastrophic End To Out Day , Never To Venture Into The Establishment Again Give It A Miss Walk By And Save A Big Let Down, The Photos Taken This Morning After Retrieving From Waste Bin !!!!!

The Brunel Raj is easily the best Indian Restaurant in Clifton. Service and staff always friendly. Tonight I ordered Chicken Tikka Kara Masala which came with Pilau rice. My friends ordered a King Prawn Naga and a Chicken Jalfreizi, with a side order of Saag Aloo and a Peshawari Naan. We had 6 poppadoms to start, they were fresh and crispy. Our mains when they arrived were all excellent, and very generous portions. My chicken Tikka Kara Masala, had a nice thick sauce and just a hint of spice, the chicken pieces were long slithers which was nice as it gave more flavour on the chicken. We had a bottle of cold Bangala beer which went very well with the curry. Will be back soon.

Its Friday, it's the weekend! Despite the covid threat we are spending a weekend in Bristol and in particular around Clifton. We've had a few drinks in the Quadrant around the corner and now we are hungry. This was our third choice as the others were fully booked. Small and intimate and not particularly welcoming, this curry house is the only one I have known that has a "joss stick" aroma throughout....quite weird. The food was ok, annoyingly small wine glasses for our red wine and even more annoying you are not permitted to share a main course!! Ah well....there loss because we just ordered less side dishes. It was pleasant enough but nothing special....

I was part of a party that ordered a large takeaway for 11 people from a local restaurant in Clifton, and the entire experience was a disaster from start to finish.

The front-of-house staff member we spoke with on the phone was incredibly rude and unprofessional. He repeatedly put me on hold and had a terrible attitude.

Despite his behaviour, we confirmed our order with him before hanging up, and it seemed correct. However, when we got home, we discovered they had missed our starters. We immediately called the restaurant, but instead of apologising, the same employee just said, "You didn't pay for them, so it's fine." He completely missed the point that the starters were a key part of our meal and that a mistake had been made.

His only solution was for me to drive all the way back to pick up the missing food, which would mean the rest of our dinner would be cold by the time I returned. We live only a few minutes away, so we decided to go back, hoping to resolve the issue. Instead of an apology, we were met with more hostility. The staff continued to insist it wasn't a problem because I hadn't paid for the missing items. To make matters worse, they then tried to charge me for them.

We were fed up and wanted some form of compensation for the inconvenience, but they were confrontational and aggressive. The situation escalated into a shouting match, and it was only when we threatened to post negative reviews that they finally backed down and gave me the starter for free. As we were leaving, a final comment from them sealed the deal.

This restaurant has the most aggressive and disrespectful staff I have ever encountered in Clifton. Save yourself the trouble and do...

It seems the reviews from Con Gillespie, Anna Amato and Andre Vakilzadeh are conspiring to negatively impact this stalwart business of Clifton village. Two of the reviews are almost identical, and the review from Amato reinforces the fact that this group that ordered food for 11 in a large takeaway order were expecting free poppadoms as part of their order, and when they didn't get them, went back to the restaurant to complain.

They say that they had to go back to get their 'starters' (ie free poppadoms) which meant the rest of their food went cold, but then they also state they only live a few minutes away. So how is your food going cold in a few minutes? I collect from here, walk home in 15 minutes, and my food is always still incredibly hot by the time I get home. I even have to leave it a few mins to cool down. I just don't understand how these people think their reviews aren't utterly see through nonsense? Wahhh I didn't get my free poppadoms so I'm going to give you a one star review! Absolutely pathetic, entitled, vindictive behaviour.

As far as my actual review of the Brunel Raj goes, the curries are always incredible, and the staff always so friendly! I highly recommend a lamb garlic masala, karahi gosht, butter chicken masala, vegetable rice, and they will even make you dishes off menu if you desire and they have the ingredients ready - ask for an aloo matar!

Quick edit: I just picked up an order around 40 minutes ago, I've been at the pub ever since, and my food is still hot. Even the naan, the item that should go cold the quickest. Absolute nonce sense from the reviews...

Made an order for 11 people on the phone and from the get-go something was not right with the front of house. He was constantly asking me to hold the line and just being generally rude.

After I made my order, I asked him to repeat it and everything was correct.

I go to collect it and come home. When I'm back, I see that he's missed my starters which I understand happens. So I call, and he tells me that it was missed off the order so I didn't pay. No apology or anything. He made it about the fact that I didn't pay for it so it's all good. But that wasn't the point, the point was our starters were missing so now what? He said we could come back in to get some (which meant our food would get cold). He wasn't apologetic or anything. Very rude.

I went back as I only live minutes away, and they continued to mention that because I didn't pay for them, that was ok. But no, it's not ok that you missed something on my order which is now making me have to come back and make my food get cold. They then tried to get me to pay for them but I wanted some form of compensation for this mess. Anyway, it got into a shouting match and they were very hostile and confrontational. Ultimately they gave in when I threatened the reviews.

As I was leaving they said something and that was when they earned themselves this review. They are the most aggressive and rudest staff in...
