I would seriously recommend visiting this place if you're in Carlisle. My wife & I were passing through on our honeymoon and looking for somewhere to eat one evening. We found this place and booked a table as the menu looked good to us, as did what we saw on Google. When we arrived, we weren't disappointed. We arrived early, as we planned to have drinks before our booking. The staff were attentive to us from the minute we arrived, unknown to them that it was our honeymoon, mind you - we got no special treatment because of this, they were just that great! They seated us at a table that was perfect for us. We had questions about the local beer that they were only happy to answer. We started our meal with the pork belly bites, which literally melted in the mouth and had a beautiful flavour. For the mains, my wife went for the Spanish burger, which was also amazing. I opted for the sirloin steak. I was asked how I would like it cooked - blue is my go to. Not many places can get this right, but I have to say, the chef dis a good job of it. Not only was it cooked well, but had a gorgeous flavour, as did the peppercorn sauce. My wife decided that she wanted a cocktail, opting for the Crystal Wand. It was a symphony of flavour and utterly moreish!! The music within the venue the whole evening was great! They are obsessed with David Bowie in there, and there is artwork embedded in the tables dedicated to him. However, other artists included Fleetwood Mac, and many others of that era. It did seem to quiet down around 21:30 on the night we were there, but it was full up until then and I can certainly understand why. Don't miss out, go and book yourself a visit. To all the staff who made the night on the 9th of August, thank you, from the man...

The food was absolutely beautiful however the service was non existent. We had to ask someone to take our mains order, drinks order and dessert order. We were given a 25min warning that our table was required to be returned whilst we were still waiting to be served our desserts. We had just put our spoons down after eating when the waiter proceeded to bring the card machine over and bill and tell us the table was needed back and we had to leave. We hadn’t even had time to finish our drinks. We asked to speak to the manager, only to be told he was the manager. When we proceeded to make a complaint that service had been slow and we had repeatedly had to ask to be served his response was “Well I don’t know why, I’ve been on the bar all night, but I’ll have a word”. No apology or empathy. We were presented with the bill and when we went to to pay, the they had added extra charges on as they had forgotten to charge for 2 of the 3 desserts, but there was no itemisation of these, so we were not confident we were being charged correctly or if this was an attempt to add a service charge on. When we refused to pay the additional charges as we had already received our bill, the waiter then tried to imply that it wasn’t their bill, like I’m in the habit of carrying a printer around with me to print...

Friendly staff, good food, nice atmosphere…

Thin White Duke is somewhat of a hidden gem, those who know about it, KNOW about it!

We had booked a table for 2pm on Saturday and I’m glad we did, almost every table was taken - we got given a table downstairs which is so much more chilled and a nicer, almost holiday-esque environment.

Our servers were all really friendly, smiley and chatty - we also didn’t have to wait long for our drinks to come.

The menu is fantastic and there’s a wide range of meals on there, for this visit I opted for their super popular chicken is a basket and my partner went for the crispy mac and cheese wrap with chips.

The food took a little while to arrive but that was to be expected given how busy it was.

Our food arrived looking fantastic, the chicken in a basket is brilliant - the fries are delicious, especially when dipped in the chicken gravy which in itself is gorgeous! The chicken wasn’t quite as crispy as I would’ve preferred but it was still tasty!

We then got our bill which was quite a good price actually, the food was all priced really well! The only surprise was that the Coke’s were around £4 each which I think is a bit steep - that being said; it is a city centre restaurant so prices do tend to be...

Me and my partner went to have spontaneous dinner in town so we didnt plan to go to any specific restaurant. We gone through few restaurants but they were full and end up in Thin White Dukes. (We were here few times) as they had space and also we had 5mins to order food as the kitchen was closing. It was fine with us. We both ordered some burgers and extra chips, and let me tell you, the burger was delicious! At first glance you might think "ohhh its not much on the plate" but trust me, you will be full after your course. Big shout out in the kitchen as we ordered just when they were closing in the kitchen and yet food was nice and warm and burger was really well cooked, just the way I like. Staff was amazing also, they were making sure we were ok and despite how busy it was. When it comes to price, it is pretty good. I cannot complain as for the food and drink we had the price was really good. You won't be disappointed. Definitely recommend this place and I cannot wait when they will reopen as I will go back there once again.

I had stopped to have a look around Carlisle for a couple of hours as a stop gap while travelling over to Newcastle, I ended up becoming quite hungry for some tea and started looking about for which places were highly recommended. This place came up so decided to give it a go, though it was busy and popular the atmosphere was warm and vibrant, the staff were friendly and mostly attentive. I decided to have the Fish & Chips and a pint of the Victoria Málaga Lager as had not seen it on Draught in many places. It is a bit on the expensive side as the Fish & Chips were about £15.50 and a pint was £5.50 however it was most certainly worth it, The Fish & Chips were fresh and melt in the mouth, full of flavour and definitely worth the value of money, the portion was just about right and found myself rather full at the end, it comes down to Quality over Quantity and this place really delivered on that side of things. I would definitely come back here if I should return to Carlisle. Highly Recommended!
