Saturday 14 February 2014 Very good real ale pub selling good well kept real ales If more than 2 would have given 5 stars Anyone coming to Cheltenham should give this pub a go Tuesday 22nd October 2024 Today, we again come to thiscpub everything has greatly improved , and the pub is a blast The interior is great. The outdoor is brilliant There were a plethora of great real ales on, and the staff and locals today were lovely. This pub is an essential visit now to visit gor real ales and a good drinking enviroment when in Cheltenham ps the last time I came here I only gave 4 stars which was 10 years ago Friday 31st October 2025 I again came to this properly run locals real ale pub as of like my last visit in 2024 there was a plethora of hand pulled ales on that were well served by staff on behind the bar today Great locals playing bar billiards / a game not seen much in pubs now/l and orally integrating with each other. This pub is not a massive pub but in the back beer garden there is a humongous tent with a lot of seating and tables inside it This pub is an essential visit for drinkers of real ales to drink in when drinking real ales...

I have been a semi regular visitor to the Sanford since it first opened and what a great pub it was. Sadly the Sandford has become a shadow of its former self. I visited on Saturday to find that our table was right underneath a TV showing the football, now there are a Myriad of pubs in Cheltenham showing the football the highlight of coming to the Sandford was no TV no gaming machines no intrusive music!

I will give credit that when we asked to be moved the staff did accommodate our request and we did get another table, which we were thankful for. . The real ale selection was below par and nothing of interest a very “ safe” selection.

We did order food which was well cooked BUT what does the Sandford want to be?A Real Ale pub ? A Gastro Pub? Or will it become just another generic pub.

CAMRA awarded it the pub of the year alas I cannot see the award being given again on...

Upon my soul. What a little nugget of an ale house this is. The selection of ales, beers, lagers and ciders is rare to find in the abundance in mass market chain house "pubs" that dominate our value fare. Once one has succumbed to the delights of one or two tasty beverages, then no doubt some food is in mind. The food is not to the same standard of the ales. However, that is no bad thing. The food compliments the ale drinkers palette and wallet admirably. Does an ale drinker demand cordon bleu food? No possibly not. An ale drinker just wants some food that represents value and is wholesome. A very diverse menu of food to compliment the ales on sale. There is also an excellent outdoor area to sit, good atmosphere, friendly staff. Thoroughly recommended. Top notch...

The Sandford is everything a modern pub should strive for. Quality food and drink at reasonable prices served in a mature, yet casual, atmosphere. This bright and airy tavern strikes a balance somewhere between classic pub charm and trendy watering hole. With the recent change in management it appears things have only improved, with an updated menu and a fresh lick of paint, both in the bar and the large garden, the Sandford continues to be my first choice for a wide range of relaxed social occasions.

An extensive craft beer and wine list. Knowledgeable staff and very welcoming landlord/lady. Looks understated from the outside. Internally, it's has a great mix of big benches and smaller tables, ideal for any group size. There is a number of floors and it is all decorated with a bit of class. A nod to the traditional pub but, with some modern finesse. A large beer garden is located out the back. I didn't order any food, so can't comment on that but, everything else is a winner!

Great little Engkish pub. I was a little disappointed to find out we couldn't order from their regular menu, but the chicken menu of the night was excellent. It was a Tuesday to be clear. I got an American style chicken and waffles with bacon on it, very very good. Whatever spices they put in the chicken breading was excellent. The atmosphere was that of a regular English pub and the service was quick and friendly. Highly recommend if you are in Cheltenham.
