I booked this restaurant after reading so many outstanding reviews and was really looking forward to it. The place itself is small but lively, with a nice atmosphere. We were seated quickly and our waiter came over not long after to take our order. We arrived around 7pm and were given an amuse bouche on the house, which was a lovely touch and very tasty.
Unfortunately, the timing of the food let the evening down. We waited over half an hour for our starters, but when they finally arrived (cheese soufflé, mussels, and a crab dish) they were all delicious and well-presented. Sadly, we then waited over an hour after that for our mains, and it was frustrating to see tables seated long after us getting their food first.
When our mains finally arrived, they were disappointing. My chicken pasta with mushrooms was incredibly dry, the chicken almost inedible is was so dry and hard to chew, and the pasta itself had no flavour at all – I only ate it because I was so hungry. Two friends ordered steak (one medium rare, one well done) and both were very tough and almost inedible. The venison was the only main that really stood out as tasty.
Service-wise, the waiter did keep us updated and was very apologetic once we raised concerns, which I appreciated. They offered us free desserts to make up for it, but we declined, so instead they kindly removed one of the starters from the bill.
Overall, while the service was polite and they did try to rectify things, the long waits and disappointing mains really affected the experience. Based on all the other excellent reviews, I’m willing to believe it was just an off night in the kitchen, so I would consider giving it another try. That said, I’d recommend going with slightly managed...
Read moreI recently had the unfortunate experience of making a reservation at La Petit Brasserie, and I must say that I am deeply disappointed and frustrated with the way my reservation was handled. My friends and I had planned a special birthday dinner at the restaurant, but our excitement quickly turned into frustration when we received an unexplained email cancellation.
A few hours before our reservation, we received an email from La Petit Brasserie stating that our reservation had been canceled. No reason was provided, leaving us confused and disappointed. We had been looking forward to celebrating a birthday milestone at the restaurant and had made plans accordingly. The sudden cancellation without any explanation left us scrambling to find an alternative venue at the last minute.
What made matters worse was the lack of communication and the absence of an apology from restaurant.
I must say that this experience has left a negative impression on me. The unexplained email cancellation and the subsequent disruption to our birthday plans have tarnished my perception of La Petit Brasserie. I hope that the management takes this feedback seriously and improves their reservation management system to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
In conclusion, based on my recent experience, I cannot recommend La Petit Brasserie. The unexplained email reservation cancellation and the subsequent disappointment it caused during what should have been a special birthday dinner have left me with a negative impression of the restaurant. I hope that the management addresses these issues and works towards improving their communication and customer service...
Read moreAn Absolute Gem: Exceptional French Dining at La Petite Brasserie La Petite Brasserie is a delightful slice of French culinary excellence right here in the heart of Cheltenham. My recent visit was truly outstanding, cementing this restaurant as a must-visit for anyone seeking high-quality food and genuinely superb service. From the moment I arrived, the service was flawless. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and struck that perfect balance between professional efficiency and warm, welcoming hospitality. Every detail was looked after without feeling intrusive. The food, however, was the real star. For my starter, I chose the Scallops. They were perfectly seared—crisp on the outside, delicate and succulent within—and served with accompaniments that complemented their subtle sweetness beautifully. It was a fantastic opening to the meal. The main course, the Venison, was a true highlight. It was rich and incredibly tender, cooked precisely to a lovely medium-rare, demonstrating the kitchen’s skill and respect for high-quality ingredients. The sauce and seasonal vegetables paired with it were earthy and robust, creating a perfectly balanced and deeply satisfying dish. To finish, the classic Crème Brûlée was executed flawlessly. The sugary crust cracked with a satisfying sound, revealing a smooth, creamy vanilla custard beneath. It was the perfect, comforting end to a magnificent meal. La Petite Brasserie offers a wonderful, intimate atmosphere and delivers classic French dishes with modern flair and precision. I highly recommend it for any special occasion or simply a superb...
