A great spot in Cheltenham, great range of drinks and top notch Thai food. Had been in town watching football and had just over an hour until I needed to catch my train and wanted something fairly filling but healthy for dinner. Saw the rating on Google was 4.5* so chanced a visit to see if I could get fed.
Explained what I was after and was told no problem, and given a table that was booked for an hours time which gave me plenty of scope to enjoy my dinner. The menu is impressive for Thai pub grub, the usual dishes are there with some more unusual ones that you don't see so often. Ordered the fish cakes for starters and my favourite pork basil and chiili stir fry for main. Owner suggested I went for the egg noodles instead of rice as I had told him I was trying to diet!
Food arrived very quickly, and I was very impressed with the starter which was nicely presented and tasted great as did the dipping sauce. Main was just as good, nicely presented with a great flavour and a perfect level of spiciness. The egg noodles were a good suggestion, helped me keep my carbs down for the day which isn't always easy on a football away day.
Highly recommended if you like Thai food, indeed the whole place had a nice atmosphere so even worth a stop if you just...
Read moreWe visit The Vine every three or four months. The food is always outstanding and is served within minutes of ordering: I rarely have Duck out at other restaurants as the Ped Mekham here is so good nothing else comes close! The atmosphere is great and we must have a similar music taste to the person who runs the playlist... We recommend it to any friends who asks about Thai food locally. It is easily one of our top-three restaurants.
My only feedback (and the only thing we now warn the more...sensitive...friends about) would be that we've noticed the attitude of the bar staff/servers has been a little 'below par' on the two most recent visits. There's never any smiles and often questions are met with curt and sometimes quite blunt responses. We're pretty chill (and watching can be entertaining) so it doesn't put us off visiting, especially as the food is so good, but it could stop others...
Read moreWe phoned this Restaurant to try to make a booking for two people and were told unless it was for 4 they didn't take a booking. We should just turn up. We turned up and did not feel welcomed at all. yes they were busy but a sorry we hope to get you at a table in 30 mins or so would have been ok. But we were told to go to the bar three other couples were waiting and they had no idea how long we would have to wait. Not feeling we were valued as customers we decided to leave and lucky for us a few doors up the road was another Thai "Restaurant" not a pub selling Thai food. We ate there and will go back there with our friends and parties of 6 at times so the moral of this review is treat every customer as a valuable asset and just because there are only two on one occasion there may be many more visits with many more people sadly not at this place look elsewhere we did and are...
