I really wish I was here to review the food, but sadly the terrible experience overshadowed the food. My husband and I decided to have a spontaneous night out to end our holiday and had been wanting to try Blue Rapa for a while. I was delighted when I called at 4pm on Saturday and was able to get a table for 7.30pm at such short notice.
When we arrived the place was empty and there were some birthday banners up at some tables across from us.
I should point out that the place is really small, only sitting 30 covers.
We ordered our food, and the server said to us there's a party in tonight, I hope they're not too loud for you. Loud is an understatement. Shortly after this, the party started to arrive and as it turns out they made up the other 28 covers. So there was me and my husband in this tiny restaurant with 28 extremely loud and excited people all there to celebrate a friends 60th.
We quite literally scoffed the food as quick as we could so we could leave, we couldn't talk to each other as we couldn't hear anything above the noise of the party.
Eating out is about the experience for us as well as the food, and this experience was truly awful. The restaurant should not have booked a cover of two people when the remainder of the place was booked out, in my opinion, that's just greed. They also had a cheek to add a 10% service charge onto the bill, which we refused to pay. When we explained why (through shouting so the server could hear us) she said, I'm sorry, we should have told you when you called to book. So why didn't you!!!
I feel really disappointed with Blue Rapa and not sure I would return again on the basis that they chose to book the table knowing there was a large group booking and surely they would or should have known the impact this would have given the size of the place. Again, in my opinion, putting profit over the...
Read moreMy sister & I visited here recently. We were the only two in the restaurant & the female server was nice enough. We each took a bottle of wine with us as we do at any other BYOB restaurants! The food was amazing but we felt it was extremely rushed then the female server said we would have to leave soon as the staff needed to have a break. We said that we wanted to sit & finish our wine but she said she would cork mine & her words were 'take your wine with you & take it to pub round corner'. I said 'no thanks' as we had each paid for corkage & she then said 'oh well, the pub round corner is nice if you feel you want more drink'. How insulting!! What a way to treat a paying customer. Such a shame as neither one of us want to go back despite lovely food. My sister and I have been going through a difficult time recently with regard to family illness so thought it would be nice to go out & enjoy ourselves. If anyone reading this does intend to go to this restaurant, be prepared for...
Read moreWhen one thinks of Thai food, they think of the wild, complex array of spices and subsequent flavors that are commonly used in the cuisine. I was more than happy to see this exquisitely interpreted in Bluerapa Thai. As you walk in, you will be immediately greeted by a powerful mixture of intoxicating aromas which will create a lasting imprint long after you leave. The food items are the main attraction however, with a wide variety of food items; ranging from the classic chicken satay, to the more obscure soups and salads. I had the luxury of enjoying a sea bass yum salad which combined sweet, refreshing flavors from both the fruits and mint/chilli dressing and the deliciously crunchy texture from the crispy sea bass. On top of all this, one does not break the bank when eating here, however you can expect to pay slightly more than your average local Chinese or Indian takeaway. All in all not just an amazing meal but an incredible...
