As I did not dine in, I cannot comment on Service or atmosphere. But I can comment on the food based on the tast, quality and value for money. First off I'am a very big food lover and I expect the taste to be exact and I have traveled all over the world and tried differnt type of food. I wanted to try Navarasa because of the reviews where people were sharing their experience. My experience is not that great. The tast of food for the hype that I was able to read from the feedback was not on par with my expectations. My order had a mix of everything as I wanted to try and test the flavours. The vada was not fully cooked, I was able to see raw batter inside, but outside was brown, probably the oil was over heated. The so called coconut chutney was looking like coconut milk powder was mixed with water with some tempering. Surprisingly the idly was ok. Parota along with Korma was no way near and it did not do justice at all. I think the same base for tomato chutney and korma was same. Sheswan paneer fried rice was ok. the quanity of sweet that was give as part of the mini tiffen was not doing justince and it felt too oily for a bread to be in that sweet. Overall, not a good experience from a tast, quantity for the hype that was give by others. I have had better Indian/south Indian food here in Edinburgh from other kitchen. I dont mind spending extra money if the quality, quantity and taste is in par with the expectations. May be my expectations are high as I my self is a cook. My one line comment "Navarasa is missing few of the rasams. " If you are from India you will understad what Navarasa means and will be able to...
Read moreBusy rugby night: Chandu was lovely, food was excellent; let down by other aspects.
Our friend had booked online (details unclear to me), but this booking, while valid to her, was never received by the restaurant. We showed up expecting a table, and that didn't happen due to present volume.
The bad: About 40 mins later, we were able to be seated. We ordered, but food took quite a while. Again, it was busy, but this was a long time.
Chandu took our orders and served our food, and while obviously overworked and overwhelmed, he did his best, maintaining composure, and this was greatly appreciated. He did not seem to be part of the problem.
Food eventually came, and it was excellent. I made the unoriginal choice of a Lamb Biryani, and I have no qualms: very nicely cooked and well presented. The other dishes ordered were similarly well-received.
We had a good time overall despite the wait, and expect that were we to return on a quieter night in future, it would be a five-star experience.
We chatted with Chandu some at the end, and we learnt that it was his first day. I hope that the experience improves for all - you have the food and selection down, please be sure to be able to deliver it in...
