I have waited a long time to eat their Sunday Roast here. It's always booked out when I try to book. So this time I secured a booking by doing it weeks ahead. I am so glad I did this. Now I know why people rave about the Queen's Arms Sunday Roasts. I'm 58 and many moons ago was a chef. I like to think I know food. This is certailny food you'll want to know & you'll be delighted you did. We had the Sharing Roast Beef. OMG. WOW. I've never tasted such deliciously tender, melt in the mouth beef. It's the BEST I've tasted in a lifetime of Sunday Roast Beef dinners. Even better than my own and I could seriously give some chefs a run for their money. These chefs hands down to them, they cooked this beef to perfection, I think so.proffesional of them, that they cooked it to the absolute second, not a second more or a srcond less, but bang on that second. First class beef, very generously sliced and a good few slices for each of us. I'm often disappointed by the soft roast potatoes and mushy veg some places serve up. You won't find that at the Queen's Arms. You get freshly cooked, evenly crisp roast potatoes on the outside and flavoursome fluffy potato on the inside. Not one bit of fat/grease is on your plate. Perfectly cooked. These chefs are passionate about their food, they take it seriously and obviously care about what goes out from the kitchen to the customers table. The Yorkshire puddings, massive, light with the crispy edges. 10/10. Equally the peas, fresh carrots & cauliflower all with a good bite to them and you could close your eyes and eat them and be able to name each veg seperately as they tasted like they're supposed to taste. No mushy tastless watery mess here. Again these chefs cooked them to perfection. They obviously choose their veg supplier well.... its not Iceland frozen veg here, like I've had in a few restarants. At the Queen's Arms it's fresh and flavourful. The next delight......the dessert board to share. A scoop of apple sorbet, a chocolate souffle and a slice of lemon meringue pie. NAILED IT. I had to check around me to see if I'd died & gone to heaven. It was Sunday after all. Im happy to report, it was all very real and all very rare that so much care was put into what was one of the best Sunday Roasts I've ever had and served by attentive and happy staff. Thank you all for a most memorable meal and one I'm sure to repeat. I did see a battered haddock leave the kitchen, it was huge....maybe I'll save that one for a weekday. I'm going to aim to work my way through this amazing pub's food...
Read moreFirst time in Scotland the land where your Avenger took one of his first Masters degrees, the university right now is World Heritage of UNESCO.
For the first food experience to touch base, and to await for your Divorcee to arrive, since he had to go to court for further divorce papers, we got a fantastic recommendation from a Lithuanian follower that lived here.
We entered and got a huge hype from everyone inside, which immediately disappeared when they didn't see your Avenger, though we still sat down in the place with the King's chair they had reserved for the King of The World A great environment, great sound system with music for all ages, and ventilation system super pleasant
The Great one would be pleased by the quality of food, amazing haggis, just unhappy with the quality of pivac. With the food was just a lack of plates for the starters, we know the Impulsive loves to eat on his own terms, and not sharing food is third commandments (after being true to yourself, and no one is sexier than him)
They had several screens with sports going on, and at some point we noticed a variety of people leaving the establishment, once we looked up, we saw football was on, but it was female football, unpleasant indeed! Which in a way makes people having no screen time, and forces for real human connection , and it made us the Avengers, getting to know each of us better, and on a TV far from our seat, we watched for the first time ever a bit of cricket.
The place is 5 star, great food, great library with old books, special a section dedicated to Pete and his overcoming divorce, and another on how to be close to perfection (your God's...
Read moreCame for Sunday lunch today on a recommendation and revisiting our Local from many years ago. Booked it weeks ago and I was really looking forward to it. Sadly and I genuinely am sad about this, the food was disappointing, we opted for the Sharing Roast and Dessert. The beef arrived and was luke warm, but I didn't complain at the time as i was hoping it would taste better. The Yorkshire pudding was amazing, but the beef was chewy & tough and the vegetables were luke warm too. The dessert sharer for 2 was a sample trio enough for 1, how on earth they can justify that it was for 2 is beyond me; very disappointing indeed. The drinks were nice and the chap that served us was nice too. I used the toilets, they were vile and smelled of sewage and the flushes didn't work. I spoke to the Manager about my dismay, mainly about the dessert and she said she would pass on the feedback but I got the impression she wasn't really interested. I mentioned that for an extra £10 that Kyloe is so much better and she said that Queens Arms are part of the same group! I was quite astounded by that as there is no comparison, Kyloe is 100 times better than the Queens Arms. So my lunch was poor today and I left feeling very deflated and I wouldn't recommend a return visit, not for food anyway. I expect better for Edinburgh City Centre and this was a...
