Popped into Victor Hugo Deli as a first. Cashier who served me very pleasant with a nice manner. Whilst looking for a table I approached a table to sit down " the owner" instead of saying the table was taken was rude shouting taken for a disabled customer. Just because I haven't a stick and my pacemaker isn't visible then no help in this Deli. However, as soon the own saw I was wearing a Star of David his manner changed completely. . Challenging him about how he had spoken to me upsetting me with his behaviour he continued to be adversial informing other customers " he hasn't an attitude" to try and validate his behaviour that it was okay towards me when it wasn't. The manager continued to bang around clearing tables muttering under his breath deliberately creating a bad atmosphere around me. Wearing a Star of David obviously had an impact on his behaviour towards me. I'd come here again with my daughters food beautifully presented unfortunately he owner's behaviour left alot...
Read moreWith the independent cafes in and around central Edinburgh as rare as week without rain in the capital, Victor Hugo is a real treat. In addition to a range of coffees and teas (non dairy options are also offered) there are plenty of wonderful pastries to choose from as well as an extensive breakfast, brunch and lunch menu. Their Portuguese natas are addictively good. They also serve wine at reasonable prices, including red, white and rosé by the glass and bottle. There is seating by the window and outside as well. This place offers table service...
Read moreWhat a disappointing experience! There were five of us and after placing our orders and a substantial wait, just two of our brunches arrived. After waiting patiently for more than 30 minutes, we queried the wait and were told that we hadn’t ordered two of the five breakfasts (we most certainly had). The third brunch eventually arrived and was eaten. Another 30 minute elapsed before the final two brunches arrived. We expressed some frustration and were told that the two brunches not included on the first order would not be charged, which didn’t make everything alright, but slightly softened the disappointment. As we went to leave we were told very bluntly to pay the remainder of the bill. The final outcome was a small discount and a very embarrassing encounter at the till. I would not visit this place again and most certainly wouldn’t recommend it...
